Process Engineer

Purpose
Roseburg Forest Products is seeking Process Engineering Interns for multiple locations across North America.
This internship is designed to focus on optimizing complex continuous processes to reduce cost, increase productivity, and decrease waste. The ideal intern is motivated to win and highly functional in a team environment. The split between desk and floor time is 80% floor 20% desk. This position is drafted to provide hands on IE experience through providing a challenging problem(s) at one of the locations and the structure of support to enable the candidate to succeed. Selected candidates will be mentored by the Regional Continuous Improvement manager for the duration of the internship. This structure is unique and provides selected candidates the opportunity to interface with other interns at a regional level while working closely with a team at the facility.
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement improvements based on time studies (SMED)
  • Create best practices for processes changes (Poka-Yoke)
  • Conduct RCA events for project area
  • Follow PDCA for all new initiatives
  • Establish and design process mapping of key parameters
  • Apply statistical techniques including SPC, DOE, and Modeling to predict outcomes or reduce variation
  • Develop and Implement reliability modifications to improve process uptime
  • Establish and Sustain 6s best practices across areas of influence
  • Document key process parameters and validate spec and control limits associated with product types
  • Eliminate waste in all processes (Muda)
  • Model Company core values
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Required Qualifications
  • Exposure to LEAN manufacturing concepts
  • Self-motivated and driven to win
  • Exceptional at communication
  • Willing to provide and receive feedback on performance
  • Experience with statistical software packages (Minitab, JMP, R, SAS)
  • Understanding of the application of multiple types of analysis outputs (DOE(s), ANOVA, T-Test, etc.)
  • Fluent in the language of data quality (Outliers, Data Integrity)
  • Curiosity to solve problems
  • Willing to learn RCA techniques
  • Ability to conduct activities in a safe and professional manner
  • Student is pursuing Bachelors’ in Industrial Engineering, or other relevant Engineering discipline, from an ABET-accredited program, and have completed at least one semester of sophomore year before beginning this internship or co-op
