Job Summary:        

 

Under the leadership of the Head Golf Professional-Course Manager, this position is responsible for the implementation of strategies to ensure successful golf course operations.  This position supervises golf events and programs designed to meet the needs of our community, objectives and goals of the Parks and Recreation Department.  This is an exempt position that offers an annual salary with the option of earning additional income through teaching lessons.  Must be available to work flexible and varied hours that include weekends, evenings, holidays and on-call hours.  This position is responsible for the daily operations at Lakeview Golf Course. The work is performed under the direction of the Head Golf Pro, but extensive leeway is granted for exercise of independent judgement and initiative.  Works closely with the Head Golf Professional-Course Manager, committee/golf association members and citizens to meet the needs of the golf community.  This position is distinguished from other recreation supervisory positions in that the work requires a specialized knowledge of golf course operations rather that a general knowledge of recreation program development and implementation. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

Schedule, supervise and evaluate the work of golf pro shop staff, seasonal/part-time staff, interviewing, hiring for new or vacant positions, monitoring work schedules, providing direction when necessary, discipling as required, managing conflict and rewarding performance when appropriate;

 

Ability to provide training to staff, efficiently run all aspects of a successful pro shop, assist and takeover leadership of all areas in time of Head Golf Pro-Course Manager absence, 

 

Provides collection of greens fees, coordinates playing times accordingly, effectively operates POS and/or golf scheduling platform, begins golf play

 

Provides cash register reconciliation, including counting of monies in the POS register, adding checks, credit card slips and cash to reconcile with register journal;

 

Provides group golf lessons and golf clinics for adults and children through department activity guide;

 

Conducts individual private lessons for adults and children;

 

Maintains accurate financial records, including consistent and accurate cash records for all pro shop transactions, golf course merchandise, 

 

Provides accurate and consistent record keeping;

 

Negotiates contracts for tournament operations, golf course merchandise, golf courts, including general maintenance of golf course facility;

 

Oversees pro shop merchandise sales and inventory in pro shop; functional knowledge of retail operations; 

 

Develops and promotes tournament packages, including organizing, booking and running tournaments within the golf club and playing course;

 

Provides needed information and feedback concerning how to perform certain tasks to new employees in the same or similar roles;

 

Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others informed concerning work progress that includes present and potential work problems and suggestions for new and improved ways of addressing such problems;

 

Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions to become and remain current on principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;

 

Responds to citizen’s questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;

 

Provides effective communication and coordinates regularly to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities; 

 

Fosters and maintains a working environment free of fear and intimidation;

 

Maintains and respectful work place environment;

 

Fosters and maintains a positive working environment with subordinates, peers, customers, local neighborhood association and City administration;

 

Job Specifications: 

 

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, Parks and Recreation or related field; and

 

Extensive experience in golf course management operations; and

 

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in golf leadership positions; Experience as an Assistant Professional preferred

 

Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

 

Extensive knowledge of golf rules, regulations and principals of golf;

 

Extensive knowledge of the principles of golf course operations, program development and implementation;

 

Extensive knowledge of safe work place measures and safety regulations;

 

Extensive knowledge of methods, techniques and equipment required for clubhouse and related facility;

 

Extensive knowledge in business, finance, marketing and retail;

 

Extensive knowledge in food and beverage sales and service;

 

Extensive knowledge in employee training and supervision;

 

Extensive knowledge in public relations as it pertains to golf patrons, fellow employees, sales contractors, vendors and the general public,

 

Ability to demonstrate exceptional golf skills and teach;

 

Ability to lead, direct and develop employee policies;

 

Ability to provide high quality customer service in a positive manner;

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and staff;

 

Ability to make pubic presentations;

 

Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing;

 

Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions;

 

Ability to prepare and present accurate reliable reports containing data findings and recommendations;

 

Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications;

 

Ability to use logic and reasonable thought processes to develop solutions when problems arise;

 

Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;

 

Licensing and Certification:

 

Possession of a valid State of Idaho driver’s license and safe driving record is required;

 

PGA Class A Member in Good Standing

 

PGA Level II Golf Professional

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

 

Sufficient clarity of speech hearing of other communication capabilities with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to communicate effectively;

Travel Requirements:

 

Some travel to attend a variety meetings or training seminars is required.
