The Strategic Operations (StratOps) Strategic Capabilities Unit, consists of Washington DC Operations, Marketing & Communications and Strategic Development. The StratOps team promotes and elevates the business within our markets, works with customers and competition to influence and drive the growth of Ball Aerospace and facilitates collaboration across the business enterprise to increase opportunities.

 

The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a 10-week summer program that provides interns with practical experience working on relevant projects while working with designated mentors; access to state-of-the-art equipment; a competitive wage; relocation reimbursement; in-house training; group activities; possible future employment and the ability to participate in the Ball Aerospace Remote Sensing Team (BIRST) program to build and launch a rocket or high-altitude balloon. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be required to prepare and deliver a formal presentation of your project work to your respective department.

 

Intern – Marketing & Communications Specialist

Ball Aerospace is searching for a talented, driven and eager individual who will be responsible for writing, editing and formatting documents in support of proposal preparation, customer-facing milestone review presentations and internal business and program needs, as well as support complex customer visits/meetings. This role is part of the Marketing & Communications (MarCom) department.

 

This position is in Broomfield, CO and will report to the Customer Engagement team. In this role, you will engage and partner with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Strategic Business Units (SBUs), Strategic Capability Units (SCUs), business pursuit teams, Engineering Subject Matter Experts, Administrative Assistants, MarCom team members and other Ball personnel. Customer Engagement will include participants from the U.S. Government, Department of Defense, Civil Space customers, Aerospace and Defense Industry partner executives, elected officials (federal, state, and local) as well as suppliers.

 

Please note that while this role is Marketing & Communications focused, it has a strong emphasis on written communications, therefore a writing sample may be required.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Edit technical products developed by subject matter experts for clarity, grammar, format, and applicable standards.
  • Review technical briefings for correct language/format/branding to be used in customer visits and presentations.
  • Apply company and company-specific publication standards, branding elements, style guides, and best practices to create high-quality, Ball-branded professional content in all materials developed.
  • Proof, edit, write, research, organize, and format technical content for business proposals, program reports, hardware specifications, user manuals, white papers, and other documentation.
  • Coordinate with technical personnel, as needed, for information development and clarification.
  • Collaborate with teammates to improve product quality and process efficiency.
  • Edit, create, and format documents while maintaining  accurate document versions.
  • Support logistics for customer and industry visits to the Ball Aerospace campus.
  • Support customer engagement activities and projects.
  • Monitor visit request form and update the visitor calendar. 
  • Update tour graphics and posters.
  • Help manage the booking and scheduling of Ball’s customer facing meeting rooms.
  • Assist with event planning, support and execution of virtual and in-person engagements.
  • Support public affairs and community outreach activities such as the Ball Intern Remote Sensing Team (BIRST) payload project.
  • Provide additional internal and external communications support, as needed.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

What You’ll Need:

  • Must have completed your sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2024. We will also accept students enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Technical Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Employee Engagement, Hospitality, or related field. 
  • Solid collaboration skills.

    • Excellent writing skills; solid understanding of AP Style and familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style.
    • Event planning/production experience.
    • Ability and interest to translate and synthesize technical information into relatable marketing messages and internal articles.
    • Some technical or business writing experience.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, Project, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $17.00 - $22.85 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
