Co-op, Biologics Drug Discovery

Summary 

This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2024. Resume review begins in January 2024. 

We are seeking two co-ops to join our research lab in Biogen’s Biologics Drug Discovery Team, and contribute to our mission to design, optimize, and develop therapeutics to improve the lives of patients with neurodegenerative diseases. In this role, you will work in a lab with a cross-functional team performing experiments that will contribute to our drug discovery milestones. 

 

Position Description 

When you submit your resume, you may be considered for each of the following teams. Your preference will be factored in when making Co-op assignments:

Protein and Cell Engineering: 

Leverage a combination of common molecular biology cloning techniques, protein expression in mammalian cell lines, and mammalian cell engineering to discover and generate medicines for neurological diseases and neurodegenerative disorders.  Play a role in selecting optimized antibody variants for properties such as biological response in cellular models or enhanced distribution to the central nervous system.   

Tissue Enhanced Delivery: 

Contribute to in vivo biodistribution and PD studies. Perform MSD-ECL and BCA assays to measure concentrations of therapeutic antibodies and proteins in rodent serum and tissue extracts from in vivo studies.  Perform histological analysis of IHC processed tissue samples to determine uptake of therapeutic antibodies. Quantitative data analysis using Prism, Excel or other relevant software.  

 

Qualifications 

  • A strong interest in biological sciences and drug discovery,  
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and communicate effectively in a group setting. 
  • Previous lab experience. 

Additionally, you should have experience or familiarity with some of the following: 

  • Cell biology and mammalian cell culture 
  • Molecular biology and cloning 
  • Tissue culture and cellular assays 
  • MSD-ECL or ELISA technologies 
  • Immunohistochemistry and histology techniques 
  • Quantitative data analysis using Excel, Prism or other relevant software  

 

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university 

 

Education 

  • PhD, Masters, or Undergraduate Junior/Senior students.  
  • Majoring in: Biology, Biochemistry, Biological/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
