Automation Engineering Co-Op/Intern
SSAB’s Co-op/Intern program gives students the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience in a hands-on work environment. SSAB co-ops work with various functional areas within the company to make valuable contributions to projects, improve steel-making practices, and develop new products in state-of-the-art facilities. Co-ops develop strong organizational, operational, technical, and critical thinking skills through a variety of meaningful assignments.

Automation Engineering Co-Op/Intern
The Co-Op/Intern is responsible for providing technical assistance and problem solving for Operations while gaining valuable, real-world experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
What you will do
- Become familiar with an industrial work environment and the types of technologies used in automation
- Learn architectures through sample/simulation projects
- Human Machine Interface for problem reports
- Log research
- Troubleshoot and install sensors
- Create database reports
- Design algorithms or logic for processes
- Conduct hardware research
- Network set up and maintenance
- Create a report that summarizes accomplishments made during the term
Required Qualifications
- Working on a B.S. degree in Computer Science or closely related technical discipline
- GPA 3.0 minimum
- Strong computer skills and some knowledge of data structures
- Strong analytical capability and problem-solving skills
- Interest in AI and object character recognition
- Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
