Book Publicity Internship (Remote, Paid)

Earlier this week, a professor we’ve been working with went on live TV for the first time. Right before the segment, she texted us: “I’m nervous—but I’m ready. Thanks for helping me get here.” It was a quick message, but it said everything. That kind of moment doesn’t happen on its own. It takes a lot of planning, pitching follow-up, media prep, and all the quiet, behind-the-scenes work that makes a public moment possible. That’s what we do, and if that sounds like the kind of work you’d like to be involved in, keep reading.

We’re offering an internship position to an outstanding student who wants to learn the craft of publicity at a high level. This is a three-month, paid internship at minimum wage, plus academic credit if applicable. After the internship, there may be an opportunity to join our team in a part-time or full-time role—depending on your performance, initiative, and fit.

This internship is demanding. We are not hiring for busywork or coffee runs. You will be embedded in real campaigns and expected to uphold the same standards we hold ourselves to.

You don’t need to major in publicity or marketing, but you do need:

  • excellent writing and communication skills
  • a calm, focused approach to timelines and task management
  • the ability to stay organized across multiple projects
  • good judgment and the confidence to ask direct questions
  • the ability to call people on the phone and the right phone manners
  • availability of at least 20 hours on a regular schedule

We’re a boutique book publicity firm that works with scholars, authors, and public intellectuals—especially those from historically marginalized communities. We promote nonfiction books that shape public conversations on race, immigration, gender, justice, and power. Our clients have been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, NPR, PBS NewsHour, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Teen Vogue, Time, and Democracy Now! And hundreds more. We’ve set up and supported events at the Brooklyn Museum, the Hammer Museum, the Schomburg Center, City Lights, The Strand, 92NY, Politics and Prose, Skylight Books, Red Emma’s, and countless more. Our clients teach at institutions including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, Columbia, NYU, UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, Dartmouth, and the University of Michigan, among others. We’ve run campaigns for books published by Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Macmillan, and top academic presses such as Duke, Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Princeton, MIT, and UC Press, as well as leading indies like Haymarket, Beacon, Verso, The Feminist Press, The New Press, and many more.

Your day-to-day might include:

  • Writing emails to journalists, clients, and event venues
  • Updating media lists and tracking press hits
  • Scheduling interviews and sending reminders
  • Drafting pitches or press materials
  • Supporting online panels, author talks, and event logistics

This is an internship with potential for getting hired, as long as you are thoughtful, self-motivated, and genuinely interested in the kind of work we do. We’re looking for someone who wants to grow into the role, and help important ideas reach the audiences they deserve.

To apply, send us a short, well-written note that includes three things:

  • A sentence or two about why this internship interests you
  • A short description of a problem you solved for someone else at school, at work, or in daily life, where the solution wasn’t obvious, but you figured it out. What did you notice, what did you do, and what changed?
  • A 1–2 minute audio or video recording of yourself briefly introducing who you are and why this role caught your attention. We’re not looking for anything super polished, we just need to hear how you communicate. Using AI tools to help draft email copy is fine, but you’ll be working with journalists, scholars, and venues via email, phone, and video, so fluency, clarity and understanding professional tone matter.
  • A resume with your contact information.

This is a remote position and open to candidates anywhere in the U.S., but we are not able to sponsor a visa, so international students are not eligible.

Thank you for reading the post in its entirety. We look forward to hearing from you.
