Staff Engineer

The Staff Engineer position is responsible for providing technical engineering support and assistance with project management on a variety of government and private sector projects. The Staff Engineer will work with Cascade Earth Science (CES) project managers (Engineers, Geologists, and Soil Scientists) under the direction of a Managing Engineer to develop engineering projects from initial scope to final commissioning. CES’ typical engineering projects include preparation or administration of the following work products: planning documents, designs, specifications, construction related activities, and commissioning. With a tagline that reads, “Synergy of Water and Science™” and core service areas in water, agriculture, engineering, and environmental, the Staff Engineer will largely work on regional  projects . The ideal candidate may also have the opportunity to work on traditional environmental engineering services (permitting, regulatory compliance, report preparation and impact studies) as the project workload requires.  The ideal candidate for this position is expected to enjoy meeting new people and inspiring confidence with clients; contribute to a strong team working environment; provide effective, personal ongoing interaction with existing and prospective clients and be a self-starter. The Staff Engineer will lead the following;

  • Preparation of design drawings and specifications
  • Preparation of preliminary and detailed engineering cost estimates
  • Observation and documentation of construction activities
  • Preparation of written reports
  • Management of sub-consultants
  • Performance of environmental monitoring and reporting activities
  •  Project management assistance

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional work experience
  • Engineering in Training (EIT or FE)
  • Experience with the use and operation of computer aided drafting programs
  • The  drive to obtain professional certification as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Ability to perform field activities (e.g., stoop, lift up to 40 pounds from floor to waist high, walk, etc.)
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to colleagues, clients, and regulators
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple, simultaneous priorities
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

  • Master’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Completion of a Certified Project Management Course with professional designation
  • Career emphasis in water resources, geotechnical, agriculture, or mining related fields of study
  • Private consulting experience
