Special Education Teacher Moderate - Severe

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material according to PHA academic curriculum requirements and procedures;
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory and perceptual-motor skills, language cognition, and memory.
  • Prepares, plans and attends IEP meetings;
  • Conducts student assessments to determine progress towards educational goals;
  • Determines student’s academic and behavioral goals and objectives necessary for progress reports;
  • Produces progress reports on a quarterly basis;
  • Implements and maintains treatment/intervention plans;
  • Collaborates with school personnel and parents on educational/behavioralservices plan;
  • Participates in transporting students during community based instruction;
  • Reviews reports, interprets test/assessment data;
  • Coordinates related support services with DIS providers;
  • Collaborates with school and district medical personnel on medical care protocols if necessary;
  • Writes reviews and approves Incident Reports;
  • Supervise classroom staff;
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to classroom staff;
  • Conducts performance evaluation reviews for all classroom staff;
  • Supervises data entry and reviews data collection to ensure consistency of the intervention strategies;
  • Works closely with the Behavior Consultant on developing and implementing Positive Behavior Support Plans;
  • Promotes a positive and welcoming atmosphere to encourage collaboration;
  • Maintains a safe psychological and physical classroom environment;
  • Conducts necessary staff meetings to ensure classroom activities are in line with PHA policies and procedures;
  • Continues professional education by attending training required by PHA;
  • Attends professional workshops and meetings to promote professional growth;
  • Communicates with transportation administrator on all student transportation issues;
  • Enters student data into database;
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • A demonstrated understanding of growth and developmental stages of students with autism and related developmental disabilities;
  • A demonstrated understanding of the IEP process;
  • Ability to understand and modify accordingly appropriate academic curriculum;
  • Ability to utilize modern teaching techniques and methods in a classroom with special needs;
  • A demonstrated understanding of all applicable laws and regulations;
  • Ability to follow Precious Hearts Academy policies and procedures;
  • Ability to operate a vehicle in order to travel to other sites and locations;
  • Ability to compose and comprehend written and oral communication;
  • Ability to handle difficult situations that may arise with students, parents, coworkers;
  • Maintain sensitivity to ethnic, religious, cultural, economic and sexual differences;
  • Ability to write, read and speak in English.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college/university is required;
  • Must possess moderate-severe credentials.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of a position with or without reasonable accommodation and without being a danger to themselves or others;
  • Must meet all Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) standards and safety requirements (light duty is not available).
