DIRECTOR OF TEACHING & LEARNING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
·       Valid Washington State administrative credential. Experience as a building-level administrator preferred.
·       Master’s degree or comparable course work with major concentration and/or appropriate experience in the area of instructional leadership and curriculum development.
·       At least five years of successful teaching experience.
·       Experience improving student achievement through effective instructional leadership.
·       Expert knowledge of standards, curriculum and instructional best practices to increase student learning.
·       Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds in developing, implementing, evaluating and improving instructional materials and practices.
·       Knowledge and experience with instructional technology as a tool to increase student learning.
·       Strong skills in program development and evaluation and in offering high-quality professional development.
·       Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective public speaking ability.
·       Strong organizational, strategic planning and fiscal management experience.
·       Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively manage and resolve conflict and build consensus.
·       Demonstrated integrity, sensitivity, cultural competence and high ethical standards.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for leading and implementing the district’s instructional vision to improve student learning. This includes implementing a system of professional development, aligned instructional materials and practices, and other supports to ensure all students are successful in developing grade-level skills and knowledge according to national, state and local standards. The Director works collaboratively with a wide variety of teacher, administrative and parent/community teams to identify needs and priorities and to develop and implement vertically and horizontally-aligned instructional goals, materials and best practices. The Director is also responsible for managing a variety of state and federal grants, budgets, assessments and mandated reports; supervising teachers on special assignment; and supporting building administrators in the development and implementation of school improvement plans and building-level professional development.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The current contract for this position includes 215 days of service.  Salary range for the 2019-2020 school year is $140,912 to $150,949, depending on experience. During the 2018-2019 school year, $843.97 per month was provided to help defray the cost of health premiums including mandatory dental, vision and long term disability insurance, as well as optional medical, salary and life insurance. Administrators receive 12 sick days and 3 annual leave days plus a district cell phone and a $4000 annual budget for professional growth.
