Construction Project Engineer

Job Summary:
The Project Engineer works within the Project Management team to plan and oversee the project while ensuring its timely, cost effective and high quality outcome. The Project Engineer will support the Project Manager and Superintendent throughout all phases of the project.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Effectively prioritize and manage the administrative workload – organize and manage Submittals, RFI’s and Shop Drawings
  • Review Shop Drawings for coordination with trades and compliance with contract documents
  • Develop an understanding of contracts, subcontracts and tracking systems for budgets
  • Maintain an understanding of Sierra’s contract (including Sierra’s contractual obligations and the owner’s obligations)
  • Develop an understanding of the owner contracts and how they work
  • Responsible for maintaining site contacts and budget entry within Timberline
  • Facilitate the implementation of Sierra’s Quality Management Program based on project requirements
  • Create, maintain and distribute as-built plans and specifications
  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes
  • Assist the Project Manager with subcontract negotiation and administration
  • Correspond with owners, clients, consultants and subcontractors
  • Assist in preparing job schedules
  • Effectively manage procurement of materials from subcontractors or suppliers
  • Assist in conducting complete and accurate quantity take offs
  • Maintain project management files and logs in Timberline
  • Approve invoices and applications for payment
  • Assemble close out documentation
  • Learn, understand and adhere to company safety policies and programs, including the ability to independently stop work for a safety violation or suspected safety violation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience reading and understanding construction plans and specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated work ethic
  • Function effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients and subcontractors

Education, Experience, and Technology Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent
  • 2-5 years of industry experience
  • Experience using Sage 300 CRE (Timberline)
