Instructional Coach - Elementary

JOB SUMMARY:                
To provide coordination and facilitation of staff development, training, and on-going support for teachers with the goal of developing classroom instructional excellence and improving the overall performance of students. The coach will also provide technical support to PLC groups and expand the implementation of the Five Key Pillars of ESD (High Schools That Work/Making Middle Grades Work, RTI Academic and Behavior, Improving Teaching and Learning, Curriculum and Idaho Core State Standards, and Technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Research and provide content knowledge, resources, and materials to staff about learning and teaching all content areas including:
  • Teaching strategies;
  • Assessments;
  • Interpretation and application of assessment results; etc.
  • Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative instructional practices through various activities such as:
  • Individual discussions (formal and informal)
  • Coaching sessions;
  • Demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion/analysis;
  • Study groups;
  • Staff meetings; and
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop action plans in response to determined student needs.
  • Plan meeting calendars and facilitate meetings.
  • Work with the principal and other staff to create a school-wide focus on goals for student achievement.
  • Participate fully in professional development opportunities and professional research and reading.
  • Assist with mentoring and supporting new staff members.
  • Collaborate effectively with staff on the analysis of instructional practice and student progress.
  • Knowledgeable about current research on effective instructional strategies in the classroom.
  • Assist teachers in the curriculum design and implementation process of the Idaho Core Content Standards.
  • Knows and follows district and school policy and the chain of command.
  • Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
  • Performs such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications Profile
  • Master teacher with extensive training and successful experience in effective instruction in the classroom.
  • Deep knowledge of reading, writing and literacy development as well as diagnostic assessment practices.
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
  • Interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, flexibility and patience) to share research-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching to implement changes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
