Position Title: Lead Toddler Teacher
FLSA Status: 40 hours/week
Supervisor: Director of Early Learning Center

General Description and Purpose of Position

This role incorporates evidence-based and/or best practice methods in delivery of services for infants and toddlers in the White Shield Early Learning Center (ELC) and the moms whose children are served by ELC. This is often accomplished through casual instruction and modeling to strengthen appropriate behaviors for positive parenting. 
The Lead Toddler Teacher creates a positive learning environment for toddlers that welcomes creativity and curiosity, and promotes all areas of development.
Qualifications 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Intervention, Human/Social 
Services, or related field. Must have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or an Associate Degree in a related field with 20 quarter hours of training in the five Core Knowledge Courses.
Experience: At least one year experience working with infants and/or toddlers 
Knowledge of child development as referenced by professional references, experience, education, and training
Qualities/Knowledge: 
Excellent verbal and written English communications skills
Ability to implement services in a culturally-responsive and trauma-informed manner
Knowledge of best practices in gender-specific services, especially females
Understanding of human development, particularly early childhood and adolescence 
Ability to work independently and as a productive team member
Initiative
Flexibility and adaptability 
Critical thinking skills
Compassion and patience

Minimum: Physical ability to perform job responsibilities
Valid Driver’s License 
Must pass a background check
CPR/First Aid Certified

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

1. Care of Children 

a. Supervise all children and the children’ environment for physical safety and emotional well-being. 
b. Carry out all policies which ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the infants and toddlers in ELC as according to the regulations of the Child Care Division. 
c. Complete regular (approx. 2-3 week) written observation for each toddler in care. 
d. Collaborate with team to complete screening and assessment tools for each toddler in care. 
e. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that align with the Reggio Emilia philosophy and Creative Curriculum to encourage all areas of children’s development, using screenings and assessments along with child observations to tailor to the strengths, goals, and interests of each child. 
f. Work with Portland Public Schools Early Intervention Team and Multnomah Early Childhood Program (MECP) to establish, work toward, and collect data on goals for children who qualify for Early Intervention Services. 
g. Work with Director and Assistant Director to create and implement interventions for unsafe or problem behaviors from toddlers. 
h. Work with Director and Assistant Director to orient parents to policies and routines of the toddler room. 
i. Collaborate with team to plan for and facilitate parent-teacher conferences for families of toddlers in care. 
j. Assist in facilitating family music, literacy, and play groups. 
k. Maintain organized records on children’s daily sheets and write Incident Reports as needed. 

2. Training/Leadership 

a. Attend training courses to increase knowledge of child development and current best practices according to Child Care Division’s standards for Early Childhood Educators. 
b. Model positive care giving/parenting skills for parents. 
Working Conditions
 Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and reliable manner. This position may require driving to meetings in the local community, conferences across the State of Oregon, or for community outreach efforts on behalf of service recipients and the agency.
 Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach or sit for long periods. The employee must be able to regularly lift or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 70 pounds. 
 Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, ability to adjust focus and depth perception. 
 Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines.
 Employee will work with technology equipment such as computers, copiers, faxes, projectors, and multi-line phones.
 Employee will work with population that demonstrates unpredictable, impulsive and sometimes aggressive behavior. 
 Must practice Universal Precautions as employee may come into contact with blood, urine, feces, or other bodily fluids.
