Animal Care Supervisor - Nonhuman Primates


The Bionetics Corporation is seeking a Animal Care Supervisor for the Nonhuman Primate division to join our team at the FDA/HHS - National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), in Jefferson, Arkansas.  Bionetics is a diversified government services contractor specializing in engineering and life sciences with locations nationwide. The Nonhuman Primate Supervisor is responsible for the day to day functions and oversees personnel assigned to the Nonhuman Primate (NHP) facility. Provides support to NCTR laboratory animal programs consistent with NCTR guidelines. 



BASIC REQUIREMENTS:          


  1. Must have a BA or BS in Animal Science or related field or equivalent related experience. 
  2. At least three (3) to five (5) years’ management experience working with NHPs in an animal laboratory environment. 
  3. Certification by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) is required. 
  4. Continue training to maintain and build proficiency in techniques in accordance with customer needs and/or requirements.
  5. Possess good organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
  6. Must possess excellent knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations governing Animal Care facilities.
  7. Good knowledge of both spoken and written English.
  8. Must be a legal resident of the United States.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible of oversight of operations and personnel in the NHP facility.
  • Coordinate with the veterinarian to assist and/or support researchers in scheduling and in the conduct of animal related procedures as appropriate.
  • Orders and accounts for facility supplies, maintains a safe, clean, orderly animal care environment in compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Prepare work schedules and assign tasks to department personnel.
  • Record and compile data in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Ensure all SOPs are properly adhered to by all department personnel.
  • Identifies training and development needs of direct reports. Works with Training Coordinator to implement training.



NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Occasionally – Climbing, Stooping, Kneeling
  • Often – Reaching, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Talking, Hearing, Seeing       

Lifting/Moving Requirements – Minimum of 50 pounds 

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
 
Work is performed mainly indoors in a laboratory environment and/or in an animal care, barrier facility, surgical or test procedure facility, diet/water prep facility, or animal housing/bedding cleaning and prep areas. Work may require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in both areas. Work area may be prone to hot and humid conditions, and subject to objectionable odors, aerosols, dust, animal dander, and noise.
