SPECIAL EDUCATION – LIFE SKILLS TEACHER

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
·       Valid Washington State teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement
·       Bachelor’s degree with specialization in Special Education; Master’s preferred
·       Thorough knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations
·       Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
·       Ability to evaluate and write IEP’s and familiarity with inclusion/mainstreaming essential
·       Knowledge of Washington State education trends and the use of technology in the classroom
·       Experience working with students with social, emotional and behavioral challenges
·       Ability to provide a highly structured learning environment and work with a team
·       Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and positive attitude required

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Special Education-Life Skills teacher is part of a Professional Learning Community team and provides instruction to special needs students in Life Skills settings; develops and implements IEP’s; supervises paraeducators; and is responsible for case management to ensure school success.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Terms of employment for a 1.0 FTE certificated staff member during the 2019-2020 school year include a 182-day work year and supplemental pay, which is available after meeting district requirements. Each employee is also eligible to receive twelve sick leave days and three annual leave days. Salary placement is based on the State Salary Schedule. For the 2019-2020 school year, the total compensation ranges from $54,790 for a person with a Bachelor’s degree and no experience to $104,477 for a person with a Master’s degree + 90 credits and 16 years of experience. During the 2018-2019 school year, $843.97 per month is provided to help a full-time employee defray the cost of health premiums that includes mandatory dental, vision, and long term disability insurance; and optional medical, salary, and life insurance. If employed less than full time (1.0 FTE), days, salary, and health premiums are pro-rated based on FTE.
