Academic Success Advisor/ Exploratory Program Coordinator

Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Academic Success Advisor/Exploratory Program Coordinator. The Academic Success Advisor is responsible for promoting and educating students on academic success strategies to enhance the student experience and increase campus-wide retention efforts. This position works with at-risk students and coordinates The Turning Point Program for students on academic probation. This position coordinates advising for all undeclared students in the comprehensive Exploratory Program and offers a variety of services that promote student academic success and major discovery. This position supervises the Peer Academic Leaders (PALs).
Responsibilities:
The Success Advisor advises students and the campus community on best practices and academic success strategies. This position coaches and advises at-risk students by providing academic assistance through individual meetings, workshops, and classroom presentations. Topics of such programming includes time management, goal setting, decision-making strategies, test taking strategies, self-advocacy, and overall academic/degree planning. The Success Advisor coordinates the Turning Point program for students on academic probation and is the campus contact for Denver Scholarship Foundation students.
As the Exploratory Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for coordinating undeclared advising in conjunction with best practices set by Complete College America. The advisor assists with schedule building and registration as well as promoting personal assessments and offers programming for major discovery. The Exploratory Program Coordinator will host Exploratory Program events and coordinate communications for continuing and prospective students. This position will assist with campus-wide events such as Orientation, first year seminar workshops, Preview Days, and facilitate presentations as needed.
The Success Advisor supervises the Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) and executes programs for ARC services. This position will manage the daily operations of the Exploratory Center while increasing peer to peer interactions and collaborate with other campus departments to meet the needs of the student body and increase retention, college success, and career connections.
This position must conduct and sumbit annual assessments of aforementioned responsibilites.
This position is responsible for general office functions: greeting students, answering questions, problem solving, and providing support for all ARC events and services. This position is also responsible for new student advising and registration.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, Microsoft Office proficiency, navigating databases, and astute attention to detail. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work with diverse student populations. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Comfortable with public speaking.
Preferred Qualifications: MA/MS/M.Ed. in higher education or related field. Experience working in higher education within student support services. Academic advising or counseling experience and/or knowledge of student success strategies and best practices. Leadership and supervisory experience.
Salary: Compensation will be salaried at $32,000 - $34,000 per year (depending upon experience) plus full benefits. The position is FLSA exempt and not overtime eligible.
