Special Programs Director

JOB OBJECTIVE:
To provide sound educational programs for children who require educational support which will assure, to the greatest extent possible, social, emotional, and academic success for students while maintaining a climate that enhances positive staff, student, and community interactions.
 
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
¨ Master’s degree in Education Administration
¨ At least three years experience teaching and/or administration in special programs or remedial services.
¨ Training, experience, and ability in Special Services program development, supervision, and instructional leadership
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
¨ Identify needs of Special Service Programs
      with input from staff and building administrators
¨ Recommend annual program staffing, budget, and program
¨ Provide support, direction, and in-service programs
¨ Assist in evaluation of programs staff
¨ Approve expenditure requests for special education and categorical programs
¨ Attend student service team meetings
¨ Ensure that special education processes and documentation is consistent with federal and state requirements
¨ Plan and participate in Childfind activities
¨ Act as district representative to advisory boards and parent committees required by program funding
¨ Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements in cooperation with curriculum team
¨ Keep Superintendent and school board informed about remedial service program
¨ Organize and administer the public relations
   program for the elementary school and Special Programs Department
 
¨ Conduct productive, well-organized learning meetings with faculty to ensure effective function and operation of the school
¨ Inform parents when discipline issues arise in a timely, respectful manner
¨ Keep the Superintendent informed regarding school activities and potential school concerns
¨ Develop and maintain parent advisory groups and conduct monthly meetings as appropriate
¨ Attend and participate in all Administrative Learning Team meetings and all other meetings as requested by the Superintendent
¨ Attend all required school board meetings and provide information to the board of directors as
      requested by the Superintendent
¨ Respond to all written, electronic (email), and oral requests for information in a timely fashion

¨ McKinney-Vento / Homeless Liaison

¨ Supervising, selecting, training, motivating, monitoring, and evaluating certificated and classified staff
¨ ELL, Special Needs, and High Poverty programs and services for students and families
¨ ELL and Special Education intervention strategies
¨ Providing leadership and guidance to staff and to educational programs
¨ Conflict management and problem resolution
¨ Budget planning, monitoring, and administration
¨ Current educational research and application
¨ Effective decision making
¨ Student behavior management and discipline
¨ Assessing educational/instructional/curricular effectiveness and recommending improvements
¨ Team-building
 
 Terms of Employment:
The annual contract is based on 215 days and salary range will be $105,000 - $115,000; depending on prior administrative experience. A comprehensive fringe benefit package is available.
