1st Grade Classroom Teacher


Position Title:           Teacher - 1st Grade
Position Type:           Full-time teacher

Purpose Statement:
West Portal Lutheran School is a mission of West Portal Evangelical Lutheran Church. As stated in the Mission Statement of West Portal Lutheran School: In a challenging and inspiring Christian environment, West Portal Lutheran School exists to provide an exceptional academic experience for children in kindergarten through the eighth grade.


Job Responsibilities:

The office of the teaching ministry of West Portal Lutheran School requires all faculty members to fulfill the responsibilities of a teacher as specifically designated and to fulfill the responsibilities of this office and to perform the duties faithfully according to the Word of God and the confessional standards of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as drawn from the Sacred Scriptures.

Regarding Teaching of Subject Matter, Curriculum-based:
Each teacher in grades K-8 is obligated to comply with the terms of his or her contract document,. Obligations required to be fulfilled by a teacher include the effective teaching of the curriculum material outlined for that grade-level subject matter.

Additional Responsibilities:
·      It is expected that teachers faithfully attend worship services on a regular basis.
·      The safety, well-being and Christian education and disciplining of students should be considered the prime responsibility, along with modeling the Christian life. 
·      Faculty attendance is mandatory at Faculty Meetings, Baccalaureate Service, Graduation Service, Teacher Installation Service and Voter’s Assembly meetings. 
·      Each teacher will be in worship when his/her class sings or performs at West Portal Lutheran Church for Divine Services and the Christmas Program and participate in all activities relating to West Portal Lutheran School in which their students are involved.
·      Teachers will attend PTL activities [1 board meeting, 1 general meeting, Christmas Faire] 
·      All teachers are responsible for holding parent-teacher conferences. 
·      All teachers are required to attend faculty devotions faithfully.   
·      Teachers are expected to be familiar with the current Personnel Policy Manual and Parent Handbook.
·      Teachers must acquire 30 hours of professional development every year. They must attend the Lutheran Educators' conference in November .and a one-day in-service in the spring.
·      Each teacher is obligated to maintain certification in Basic First Aid and CPR.
·      Teachers will do additional duties as requested by the Principal.
