College Services Advisor

Position: College Services Advisor
Reports to:  Director of College Services
 
Position Overview:
As a College Services Advisor you will contribute to a broad base of knowledge about existing resources available to support the goals of Steppingstone Scholars. Advisors will also develop and maintain relationships with external partners at colleges and various agencies throughout Boston, in order to best support the personal and post-secondary growth of Advisees. Advisees are Steppingstone Scholars in their senior year of high school, and freshman and sophomore years of college. Advisors work as a team to design and implement programming and/or events that provide not only college application assistance, but also transition support so that Scholars can thrive in college. Advisors will also have many opportunities to participate in professional development opportunities throughout the year. A flexible schedule with some evening and Saturday work as well as the ability to travel to area colleges is required.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop meaningful relationships with Advisees and their families that effectively support Scholars’ personal and post-secondary growth
  • Maintain ongoing contact with caseload of 100-110 Advisees
  • Support Scholars using designed curriculum that focuses on academic progress, professional readiness, financial sustainability, and social/emotional well being
  • Work with high school seniors to ensure preparedness for college and a successful transition between high school and college 
  • Maintain knowledge of resources and opportunities relevant for Scholars to ensure their success in the college admission process and while enrolled in college
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the resources utilized by Advisors
  • Collaborate with team members on project management by developing and implementing programs, services, and/or procedures 
  • Track and utilize data in a concise and consistent way in order to inform analysis of high impact activities
  • Assist with program-wide responsibilities, including the admissions process for incoming applicants, college readiness activities, and more.
 
Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience as an effective team member
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular hours to meet Scholars’ needs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license required and access to a car preferred
  • Preference given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)

Education and Work Experience:  
  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field
  • Technical knowledge and experience in the areas of college application support, college enrollment process, and/or college advising preferred
  • Successful experience working with high school seniors and/or college students in group or 1-on-1 settings

Physical Demands:
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, operating computer and office equipment

Salary: Starting salary of $38,500
