Center Based Supervisor - Preschool, Seattle

SCOPE
Child Development Department staff support the Neighborhood House mission framework and Strategic Plan by contributing to the school readiness of low-income children and supporting their parents, care givers and community. The primary responsibility of the Center-Based Supervisor is to guide and supervise the NH Preschool Teachers in their provision of high quality Early Childhood Education (ECE) experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assume responsibility for superior program performance. Take initiative towards continuous quality improvement.
  • Provide leadership, motivation and supervision to the NH Preschool Teachers and staff.
  • Anticipate future trends and articulate credible visions enabling innovative and appropriate program planning. Design, implement and evaluate program development strategies.
  • Foster strong working relationships within the community.
  • Develop and monitor classroom budgets in collaboration with the Education and Special Needs Manager. Assist with grant writing and preparation, as needed.
  • Ensure the program is in compliance with all federal, state and agency policies and requirements.
  • Monitor program services for developmentally and culturally appropriate approaches.
  • In collaboration with the management team, conduct program evaluation, summarize results and provide concrete recommendations for improvement.
  • Complete all required program reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Recruit and retain talented staff. Inspire and motive ECE staff, provide clear expectations, emphasize the strong management decision-making, and mediate conflict.
  • Provide staff training and promote employee growth and development.
  • Appraise the ongoing performance of teaching staff and provide regular formal and informal feed back. Hold staff accountable for realizing performance improvements.
  • Make timely decisions within a team environment.
  • In cooperation with the Education and Special Needs Manager, establish and oversee a system for the ongoing monitoring of Head Start classroom files.
  • Actively pursue strategies to better integrate all NH Preschool services in order to provide the most appropriate and comprehensive program to families being served.
  • Support the staff with planning and implementation of parent engagement activities, involvement opportunities and parent trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Early Childhood Education. A B.A. in another field may be substituted if the candidate is able to demonstrate 15-30 quarter credits in ECE.
  • Three years supervisory experience in a realted setting, including group organizing and working with families.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the practices and principles of Early Childhood Education, including curriculum, assessment, individualized learning, promoting parents as their child’s first teacher, continuity of care, and teacher/caregiver/home visitor training and supervision.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with local social service resources, referrals and networking opportunities.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a team, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, receive and provide feedback, and manage dynamic interchanges in meetings.
  • Experience with resolving problems, preparing work schedules, and setting deadlines to ensure completion of operational functions.
  • Experience in education program management, including program planning, operations, and evaluation and the use of management information systems.
  • An understanding of the Head Start philosophy and the ability to implement its principal of shared authority and decision-making.
  • Establish a professional development plan and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Willingness to comply with established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Willingness to comply with Head Start Standards of Conduct by promoting the unique identity of each child and family; conforming with program confidentiality; following child supervision and guidance policies; and refraining from soliciting or accepting personal gratuities, favors, or anything of significant monetary value from contractors or potential contractors.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel independently to Child Development service sites and meetings.
  • Current Food Handlers certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
  • First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire).
  • CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire).
  • Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of employment (maintain current training status during employment).
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
  • Current Health Exam (must be obtained prior to employment). {PS 1304.52}
  • Current screening for tuberculosis (must be obtained prior to employment); rescreen as necessary. {PS 1304.52}
  • Department of Early Learning portable background check
  • Must pass Neighborhood House Background Check Requirement.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with and experience implementing Head Start/Early Head Start performance standards preferred.
  • Bilingual ability.
  • Current or former Head Start and Early Head Start parents receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.
