Administrative Clerk

JOB TITLE:             Administrative Clerk
 
WORK YEAR:        Full-Time: 12 Months/ 260 Days (prorated based on date of hire)/ 7.5 hours per day
 
START DATE:        September 1, 2019                               
 
SALARY:                 Salary Schedule 6A, Range 8, $14.78 - $21.84 per hour. Placement dependent on experience. Stipend pay for AA $250 annually, or BA $400 annually, or MA $750 annually, or Doctorate $1000 annually.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of assigned management employee(s), this classification performs general clerical duties which may be assigned and monitored by secretarial personnel.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Positions at this level perform routine office clerical duties involving the processing of reports and documents.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: [May include, but is not limited to the following.]
  1. Perform general clerical duties including accurately typing and/or drafting documents, reports, charts and tables from rough draft or oral instructions
  2. Maintain filing system
  3. Make appointments, maintain appointment schedules and calendars; make travel arrangements
  4. Assist in compiling information and data for statistical and/or financial reports
  5. Act as receptionist: answer telephone and screen calls, provide information on County Office and departmental policies and procedures as required
  6. Receive, store and inventory supplies and materials
  7. Operate computer for word processing, data entry/retrieval
  8. Operate other standard office equipment
  9. Operate computer processing reports
  10. Perform related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO:

  1. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
  2. Type accurately at a minimum of 45 words per minute with a maximum of 3 errors on computer or typewriter
  3. Perform a variety of general clerical work independently, including but not limited to accurately typing and or drafting documents & reports, filing and maintaining records
  4. Operate and use modern office machines, including basic personal computer skills and ability to learn various software programs
  5. Work with minimal supervision
  6. Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  8. Perform physical requirements of the job with reasonable accommodation

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent and experience that indicate possession of the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties listed above, including one (1) year experience performing general clerical duties or completion of specialized clerical courses.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  1. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
  2. Seeing to read a variety of materials
  3. Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  4. Sitting for extended periods of time
  5. Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects up to 25 pounds
  6. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to shelve and retrieve materials
  7. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally
