As our Staff Environmental Scientist, you will be primarily responsible for performing assessments of critical areas and writing critical area reports. The field component of our critical areas assessments generally consists of delineating wetlands, conducting stream Ordinary High Water Mark determinations and assessing the project site and project vicinity for the presence of priority habitats and fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas. In addition, site evaluations can include assessing sites for mitigation potential, inventorying habitat and habitat structures and recording wildlife observations, surveying marine shorelines and eelgrass habitat, and conducting forage fish spawning surveys on marine shorelines. You will often be asked to use GPS technology to document the location of critical features at the site.

Additional field duties may include assisting our River Team with stream/river geomorphic assessments and conducting basic stream habitat and morphology assessments.

Documenting your file review and field observations in field reports and writing critical area reports will require strong technical writing skills. A knowledge of ArcGIS will allow you to create maps documenting the location of critical features at the project site (not a required skill).
