Environmental Protection Geologist I

Under immediate supervision of the Hydrogeology and Compliance Unit Manager, Groundwater Section, Division of Public Water Supplies, Bureau of Water, receives training and guidance to gain knowledge in performing beginning level duties relative to geologic investigation and hydrogeologic characterization and administration of the Illinois Environmental Protection, Groundwater Protection, Federal Safe Drinking Water, Clean Water, and Resource Conservation and Recovery (RCRA) Acts, and 35 III. Admin. Subtitle F, Part 620. Observes and participates in evaluation of well pathine modeling utilized for wellhead protection and fate/transport modeling of remedial alternatives utilized to clean up groundwater, hydrogeologic field investigations, groundwater protection, geostatistical evaluation, and corrective action plans. Travels in performance of duties.

Education and Experience - Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with a degree in geology, including at least one course in groundwater geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, soil physics, and/or soil chemistry.

Specific Job Requirements: Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel. Requires the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software.
