ROLE SYNOPSIS
The position of Mechanical Engineer will involve working in an integrated, multi-discipline team. The candidate will work in a team environment with operations, maintenance, environmental & safety, and engineering personnel to provide technical support for operating units, design and project management of projects, and engineering solutions for major unit maintenance events.
Specific responsibilities include piping system design and layout, piping flexibility analysis, pumping & fluid flow system design & analysis, heat exchanger design, pressure vessel design and repair/alteration, pump and compressor systems, relief valve overpressure protection design, control valve design & application, insulation/painting/coating design, utility system design & analysis (steam, water, N2, Air) reviewing equipment design for capital projects, defining equipment repair scope including welding, inspection, and material selection, equipment reliability, equipment troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, use of design codes (ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM), financial and business decision making (NPV, IRR, life cycle cost methodology), searching for and implementing new technology, construction support, and all aspects of project management including schedule & cost tracking.

Minimum Requirements
• Must have cumulative and major GPA of 3.2 or higher
• BP will not support US Immigration sponsorship for full-time or long-term employment
• Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Requirements
• Majoring in Mechanical


DEVELOPMENT
The Downstream Challenge Program is BP’s early development program for technical and professional disciplines within the Downstream segment. The aim of the program is to build fully competent independent professionals within a discipline to support business delivery within their direct Business or Function. It is a competency-based program which provides graduates practical experience, informal and formal learning while building discipline foundations.
In Fuels, North America there are opportunities to join our Downstream Challenge Program in either one of our three refineries as well as within our Refining Technology & Engineering group (add other businesses where we are hiring Mechanical Engineers). All programs develop your technical skills to support our business.   
As a new graduate the program will offer you:
• Various assignments during the first 4-6 years in areas such as:
• Discipline engineering
• Corporate project management
• Maintenance and reliability engineering
• A structured and supportive environment in which to develop the skills and competencies you need to be successful in an engineering role, including targeted learning and development, and a mentoring system.
• A robust overview and orientation to the Refining and/or Pipeline businesses.
• A competitive program, with an individual assessment component and rigorous performance management process

SEGMENT
The Downstream segment has global manufacturing and marketing operations. It is the product and service-led arm of BP, made up of three businesses:
• Fuels – includes refineries, fuels marketing and convenience retail businesses, together with global oil supply and trading activities that make up our fuels value chains (FVCs). We sell refined petroleum products including gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel.
• Lubricants – manufactures and markets lubricants and related products and services globally, adding value through brand, technology and relationships, such as collaboration with original equipment manufacturing partners.
• Petrochemicals – manufactures, sells and distributes products, that are produced mainly using proprietary BP technology, and are then used by others to make essential consumer products such as paint, plastic bottles and textiles. We also license our technologies to third parties.
