Associate Investment Manager, Global Fixed Income program (170009)

Job Description and Duties:

Our Global Fixed Income program is currently seeking an Associate Investment Manager to perform complex analysis to make decisions on the development and implementation of fixed income securities for the purpose of assisting in the formulation of investment recommendations and asset allocation strategies and drive our CalPERS mission. 

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert in leading GFI’s Organizational Budget and Cost reporting.
  • Act as liaison between, INVO Admin, Operations, Fiscal, Internal Audit, Compliance, Office of Diversity, and other CalPERS organizations regarding investment policy reporting and asset class information.
  • Act as lead in the preparation and revision of the GFI Annual Plan, Investment Policy, Guidelines and Delegations.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert in GFI’s portfolio risk system (currently BlackRock Aladdin) analytics responsible or production of portfolio risk reporting and identification/resolution of analytics errors.
  • Act as liaison between GFI sector teams and Operating Committee, Derivatives Committee and Pricing and Valuation Committee for any portfolio management related issues such as new trading counterparty requests, pricing hierarchy changes, new investment product permissioning, and operating error reporting.

Desirable Qualifications:

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Structured securities experience with a focus on Agency Mortgage-Backed Securities
  • Chartered Financial Analyst certification completed or in progress
  • MBA
  • Working and applied knowledge of multiple global securities markets, trading strategies, and macroeconomics.
  • PC experience with financial databases and software applications to include advanced Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills, Bloomberg, and YieldBook.
  • High standards for fiduciary duty.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A comfort and appreciation for operating in a team and consensus driven environment is a key aspect underlying success in the CalPERS environment.
  • A high degree of initiative, professionalism, confidentiality, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions which may impact pre-established timelines and courses of action.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
