Parent Education Specialist- Santa Rosa
Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish Required
WORK YEAR: Full-Time/ 12 Months/ 218 Days (prorated based on date of hire) /
7 hours per day
START DATE: As soon as possible after interviews
SALARY: Salary Schedule 5, Range 31, $26.03 - $38.46 per hour. Placement
dependent on experience.

ASSIGNMENT: Santa Rosa, CA

DEFINITION:
Under general supervision of the Senior Director or designee, the Parent Education Specialist designs and
coordinates services related to the Parent and Family Engagement focus area as outlined in the State
Service Delivery Plan, and provides technical assistance and training to Region 2 Migrant Education Staff
and District Migrant Education Staff to support staff in implementing the services.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
1. Assist Area and Associate Directors in the development, implementation and evaluation of services
within the Regional Application that are associated with Parent and Family Engagement
2. Identify and develop parent education curriculum and materials
3. Design and facilitate relevant and engaging training to MEP staff who implement Parent and Family Engagement services including but not limited to Family Biliteracy; Parent Institutes; and Parent Advisory Councils
4. Deliver migrant parent trainings at Regional PAC meetings, Parent Leadership Institutes and other programs as outlined in the Regional Application
5. Assist MEP staff in the implementation of Parent and Family Engagement services at the Area level
6. Prepare accountability, services rendered, and other reports related to services addressing the Parent and Family Engagement focus area
7. Provide technical assistance to district(s) in the implementation of district level Parent and Family
Engagement services for migrant parents
8. Collaborate with community agencies within Region 2 that provide services appropriate for migrant parents and families

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
1. Parent education curriculum
2. Educational systems in California
3. Federal and state reform initiatives and legislation

Ability to:
1. Utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills
2. Develop and effectively deliver presentations
3. Work flexible schedule, including evenings
4. Work with adults in an educational setting
5. Utilize effective advocacy skills
6. Organize and manage various tasks and activities
7. Work in diverse cultural settings
8. Establish and develop home school linkages
9. Access community resources serving migrant parents
10. Ability to travel throughout the Region 2 area as program delivery requires
Education and Experience:
1. Two (2) years experience providing parent education/support services
2. Bilingual/Biliterate in the language of the target population(s)
3. Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
