Description
The Dual Credit Program Advisor/Program Specialist 3 works under general direction and reports to the Center for High School Programs Program Specialist 5. The position requires an ability to interpret and work in accordance of college rules, policies, and regulations, as well as state and federal regulations for financial aid and other funding purposes. The position performs highly complex duties, and operates at the journey or fully qualified level. The overall of focus of the Academic Advisor's work is to assess student needs and develop specialized one-on-one and group services, as well as provide campus-wide referrals and guide the student toward educational solutions that are responsive to these needs. This position coordinates community outreach, campus-wide outreach efforts toward guiding students through the process and options of selecting the right dual program and educational path along with developing an educational and career plan, that meets the State of Washington High School Graduation Requirements.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Center for High School Programs supports the mission of Bellevue College by providing high quality, needs-based and accessible services, which support student access to and completion of educational opportunities that advance pluralism, inclusion, and global awareness. The department is comprised of trained and experienced professionals who work directly with Bellevue College students to meet educational and career goals. Academic Advising provides complex comprehensive and timely service and information for students, parents, high schools, school districts, faculty, and other staff related to and in support of transfer and professional/technical academic programs. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL DUTIES
Academic advising services
• Independently guide students through the process of identifying and attaining their educational and career goals; Monitor and track student progress
• Provide one-on-one and group academic advising services utilizing a variety of desktop and online technologies 
• Assess student needs and apply student success and advising techniques to serve students from diverse backgrounds and, more specifically, students with disabilities, Running Start, Open Doors | CEO, College in the High School and Summer Enrichment
• Perform unofficial credit evaluations for enrollment purposes, program graduation, prerequisite clearance, and course selection
• Interpret English and Math placement results, advising students on the prior course selection/sequence using tools such as Degree Audit, HP SMS, and other advising software
• Maintain confidential student records and adhere to FERPA guidelines
• Provide collaborative and supportive intervention/outreach to students and appropriate referrals to faculty, other departments, college/university counselors or community agencies
• Present detailed program information to large groups
Manage and coordinate ongoing development of advising services and processes
• Collaborate with other departments (Disability Resource Center, TRiO, MCS, Student Programs, and others) to plan and coordinate student flow processes, as well as deliver workshops and orientation sessions 
• Participate in the training additional advising staff, providing one-on-one guidance and shadowing/observation opportunities
• Assist the Director in the preparation of complex comprehensive department plans, summaries, recommendations, progress or special reports
• Conduct research and analyze state wide, department, college-wide, and national data related to advising and student success to identify program needs
• Attend trainings, conferences, or other related information sessions if needed
Provide campus-wide, community wide outreach, services and training 
• Provide professional development and training for CEO faculty and staff members
• Provide technical support and guidance to students, parents, school district staff, college faculty and staff as related to Bellevue College degree and certificate requirements
• Participate in governance, task forces, selection committees, or other groups to support departmental or college-wide goals and advocate for student needs
• Outreach on campus and site/building visits to high schools and community organizations
• Program Applications and College Admissions onboarding and processing and new student registration and orientations
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and/or experience working with students
• One year of academic advising, educational planning, or career advising in a higher education setting
• Experience working in a collaborative team environment with diverse employees, students, parents, community partners and community groups.
• Effective interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, and group planning.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to use computers for data entry, web applications, searching the internet, and troubleshooting basic computer issues

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's Degree in Education, Communication, Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution
• One year of experience advising students in a community college setting or relaying information related to university transfer, admissions process, policies, articulations, and requirements
• Experience using multiple modalities and Universal Design principles in one-on-one and group advising settings
• Experience using degree audit systems and performing unofficial transcript reviews
• Experience presenting and leading advising related workshops to students, college staff, and faculty
• Experience working within an integrated academic and career advising department or system; ability to articulate the relationship between college major and career exploration
