Role
The Manager of English Language Learners (ELL) Programs will ensure all UP schools are delivering high-quality programming that accelerates the learning and growth of English language learners and complies with district, state, and federal requirements. This individual will oversee ELL Coordinators in executing their compliance responsibilities and partner with school leaders to improve outcomes for our English Learners. The Manager of ELL Programs will serve as a member of UP’s network Academic Team, collaborate with our Manager of Special Education Compliance, and report to the Director of Student Supports.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Monitor compliance of UP’s ELL programs with state and federal laws, district policies, and successor agreements
  • Provide training and support to school-based ELL Coordinators
  • Partner with school leadership teams and school-based ELL Coordinators to English learning principles are successfully integrated into all SEI and ELD classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with school-based ELL Coordinators to implement LOOK Act requirements related to identifying and supporting ELLs who do not meet English proficiency benchmarks
  • Collaborate with the network Academic team and school based leaders to provide professional development around best practices for working with English learners.  
  • Manage relationships with districts and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, tracking and submitting all required documentation
  • Coordinate between the network and schools on various federally regulated initiatives 
  • Coordinate and document all federal regulation trainings during school based trainings throughout the year. 
  • Collaborate with Manager of Special Education Compliance and Director of Student Support on projects
  • Travel between schools on a regular basis, with up to 80% of time expected in schools
Qualifications
  • A strong belief in UP’s Mission 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of principles and practices of second language acquisition, WIDA rubrics and resources, and state and federal guidelines for meeting the needs of English learners.  
  • Experience teaching ESL or SEI in a K-12 setting (urban experience preferred) 
  • Experience coaching or mentoring teachers and/or leading teams 
  • Experience delivering professional development 
  • Experience overseeing compliance 
  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment
