SALARY: $5,605 - $6,738/month
FILING DEADLINE: Midnight – September 25, 2019
Under close supervision the Engineer I, performs pre-professional civil, mechanical, structural, or traffic engineering work in the field or office; assists in such projects as design, surveys, construction, research, review of construction documents for compliance to State and Local codes and regulation, and development of a wide variety of engineering projects. 
Incumbents in the Engineer I class may be promoted to the Engineer II class upon successful completion of the one year probationary period in the Engineer I class and recommendation of the appointing authority. The current salary range for Engineer II is $6,148 to $7,411 per month.
The current vacancies exist in the Planning and Development Department and Department of Public Utilities. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. Should the competitive process be suspended for this recruitment, the eligibility list may be limited to three (3) months.
For the first assignment in Planning and Development, the incumbent will be engaged in plan checking for space-conditioning systems, domestic water heaters, and indoor/outdoor lighting in compliance with California Energy Code, Part 6 and Green Building Standards, Part 11, Title 24. The second assignment in Planning and Development will be responsible for reviewing grading, drainage, storm water conveyance, geotechnical reports, and compaction reports in coordination with FEMA and Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District. Additionally, this position will coordinate with the Department of Public Works regarding easements, right of ways, and ordinances.
For assignment in the Utility Planning and Engineering Division of the Department of Public Utilities, incumbents will perform design and management tasks for a variety of capital improvement projects in water, wastewater, and recycles water systems, which may include, project scoping, cost estimating, researching utilities and coordinating with survey staff for easements, Right-of-Way and As-Built/topo data and construction support.
Possession of directly related experience or education is desirable.
These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil,
Mechanical, Structural, or Traffic Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, Industrial Technology or closely related field, or certification as either an Engineer-In-Training (EIT), or Phase I Architect by the State of California. A copy of the degree, transcripts, or certificate must be uploaded to the application for verification. Applications lacking verifying documents may be rejected.
Eligibles certified for consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
This position requires the possession of a valid driver's license. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
The examination process may consist of the following:
Written Examination 100%: The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge in the following areas: surveying, maps, construction materials and practices, terms and definitions, engineering, mathematical computations, Microsoft Office programs, interpersonal skills and safety. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The Written Exam has been tentatively scheduled for the week of October 21, 2019.
