State Forester - Kansas Forest Service

As State Forester of the Kansas Forest Service (KFS) at Kansas State University, you will provide leadership, expertise, and management to the programs and employees of the agency.
Your responsibilities will be to:
  • Guide direction of all programs within KFS
  • Contribute to the success of KFS personnel meeting planned program goals
  • Advocate for KFS at state and federal levels
  • Represent KFS with federal, state, local, and private natural resources agencies
  • Prioritize and budget resources within KFS to satisfy the needs of diverse stakeholders while meeting required deliverables

Minimum Requirements:
  • A person in order to be eligible to be appointed to, or hold the office of state forester must have completed the requirements for and be the holder of a degree from a school of forestry approved by the board and shall have a record of experience in forestry satisfactory to the board. (State Statute K.S.A. 76-425c)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or closely-related degree from a school of forestry (Society of American Foresters accredited program)
  • Master’s degree
  • 3-5 years of business administration and leadership responsibilities
  • Excellent written and oral, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
