Graphic Design & Campaign Development Intern

POSITION TITLE: Sexual Justice Advocate: Graphic Design & Campaign Development Intern
DEPARTMENT: Communications

SUMMER: Dates flexible, 8 week minimum
FALL: Dates flexible, 12 week minimum
SPRING: Dates flexible, 12 week minimum

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs work on special projects as assigned by the Director of Communications or Director of Education and Outreach. Such work may include: participates in media strategy discussions and planning; develops social media memes; designs educational materials and resources; proof reads to produce accurate and high-quality work; thinks creatively to produce new ideas and design concepts; develops design briefs for specific marketing/educational campaigns; illustrates concepts by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts; obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval; prepares finished copy and art.

2. Receives exposure to aspects of running a nonprofit organization including: digital strategies (including maintaining an online presence and increasing base of support nationwide); event planning; grassroots mobilization; and, strategic planning.

3. Represents NCOSE (as an observer) and reports on events at coalition meetings, as well as congressional hearings as directed.

4. Keeps abreast of current developments (including pop culture) using various media and academic resources relating to: harms of pornography; harms of prostitution and other forms of commercial sex; demand for commercial sex and male sex buying behavior; organizations promoting, distributing, and/or profiting from sexual exploitation (pornography, stripping, prostitution, sexual assault, risky sexy behavior); and, sex trafficking of men, women and children.

5. Assists NCOSE at conferences, meetings, events or committees as directed.

6. Assists as needed with office management including answering of telephones, responding to email or other written requests, drafting correspondence, and filing.

  • Knowledge of the web and digital marketing techniques (preferred)
  • Passion and enthusiasm for design, with creative flair

  • Confidence to explain and sell ideas to colleagues and target audiences
  • Being open to feedback and willing to make changes to designs

Compensation: NCOSE provides a travel stipend for public transportation within the DC metropolitan area, as well as a $250 monthly stipend to defray living expenses. There is sometimes an opportunity for full-time, salaried employment following the completion of the internship

Hours: Flexible. Full and part time hours are possible. Rolling start dates, but looking for 8 week – 6 month commitments.
