Did you know that the State of Montana is a national leader in the development of analytics tools for predicting student achievement? Join the OPI as a research analyst and be a part of the team that helps data make a difference! Lead your own research projects and build tools to enhance student success in Montana.

In this role you will provide input into building out the Montana Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS aka GEMS), specifically for the connection between K-12 and postsecondary data. As a member of the GEMS team, you will work with IT staff to extract and transform data from the Montana higher education system, and prepare it to be available for the SLDS.

Your daily work will include conceptualizing and building tools for use in analyzing how prepared Montana students are for entry into college. You will help the OPI (Montana Office of Public Instruction) and OCHE (Montana Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education), Montana institutions of higher education, and local school district staff understand how prepared Montana students are for college, what K-12 schools can do to improve student preparedness, and what colleges can to assure student success when they arrive. You will play an instrumental role in building out the Montana Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS aka GEMS), specifically for the connection between K-12 and postsecondary data. You will contribute to the development of new research avenues and new data linkages.

You will promote our tools and provide training and onboarding for users both internal and external to OPI via trainings, conference presentations, and the development of asynchronous learning materials.
