Department Communications Coordinator

JOB # 2019-324

Interested applicants must submit a cover letter and comprehensive resume with their Washington County online employment application.

Are you a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills? Are you a collaborative leader who enjoys supervising a team? Do you have a passion for promoting the importance of public libraries in a healthy community? If so, Come Lead with Us as a Department Communications Coordinator with Washington County Cooperative Library Services!

Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) is a special fund department of Washington County, with 40% of our funding coming from a voter-approved local option levy. WCCLS is a partnership of the County, 9 cities, and 3 nonprofits to provide countywide public library service. WCCLS is the primary source of funding for libraries in the county (approximately $25 million annually), and also provides the support services and infrastructure to link the libraries together into one system, as well as some direct services to library users. This position is new to the department, and came out of a recent strategic planning process. This is an exciting opportunity to assess, refine, and expand upon WCCLS' existing marketing and communications work with our member libraries and the public, contributing to increased awareness of library services and enhancing public opinion of WCCLS. The incumbent will supervise an experienced full-time Program Coordinator and will hire two new staff to grow the capacity of the WCCLS Communications Team. The incumbent will be Editor-in-chief for all WCCLS marketing channels: print, web, email, and social media.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with effective presentation and writing skills. Spanish language skills are preferred but not required. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and supervisory skills. They will have previous government, nonprofit, or library communications experience, including building strategic communications strategies. We are looking for an individual who keeps diversity, equity and inclusion at the core of their approach to marketing and communications work.
