The University of Nebraska at Omaha is seeking an
Academic Advisor-Biology
Community Engagement Center

The advisor will be responsible for advising College of Arts & Sciences majors, focusing on the needs of biology, bioinformatics, and pre-agriculture majors. The advisor will not be directly responsible for the prehealth advisement of students but will need to be familiar with the general requirements of pre-health programs and needs of pre-health students who select majors in the department. The advisor will partner with the main biology advisor to offer academic, career, and mentoring services, in collaboration with faculty advisors, to current and prospective students. The advisor will assist with retention efforts, tracking and communicating with students majoring in the department. The advisor will help students using face-to-face communication, phone, email, and online advising delivery methods. During the summer, the advisor will assist in the college’s orientation sessions, which will include helping majors other than biology, bioinformatics, pre-agriculture or pre-health in the college. They will answer questions and assist UNO students and advisors regarding courses, prerequisites, placement exams, degree requirements, and transfer credits. They will perform essential departmental duties including, but not limited to, assisting the curriculum committee, the biology chairperson, the undergraduate program committee chairperson, and providing assistance at department events/activities. The advisor will evaluate transfer credits and enter equivalencies into TES.

Required Qualifications:
·        Bachelor’s Degree
·        Experience handling multiple caseloads effectively.

Salary Information: $41,000-$44,500/year
