Havner Curatorial Intern | Summer 2020

Position Overview:
The Havner Curatorial Summer Internship at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a paid internship with housing offering opportunities to gain first-hand experience in a curatorial department and exposure to the workings of a major American art museum. Havner Interns will work directly with a member of the curatorial team to assist with exhibition projects, develop interpretation and display of artwork, conduct research on objects in the collection, and work with the library and archives. Interns cover the full scope of the collection, which spans five centuries of American art, from the 18th century through today. Crystal Bridges has a robust summer internship program across all departments, and Havner Interns will be welcomed into this community of colleagues. Through orientation, discussion lunches and/or meetings, Havner Interns will gain knowledge of many museum departments. Havner Interns will expand upon their academic training and work to apply their knowledge and skills in professional ways.
 
This 8-10 week summer internship commences on or about June 8, 2020 and ends August 7, 2020 or August 14, 2020. The anticipated number of hours per week is 35 work hours. The stipend is paid biweekly. Housing near Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is provided. Three intern positions are available for Summer 2020.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate: rising seniors and current seniors (class of 2020)
  • Graduate: first or second year graduate students
  • Interest in American art and/or architecture
  • Completion of at least one American art history course
  • Detail-oriented
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
 
Internship Compensation (Stipend)
  • Up to $2,800 for undergraduate students
  • Up to $3,500 for graduate students
  • Housing provided

  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires verbal and written conversation with others, work at a desk and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time, bending and stretching for filing..
  • Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, and in communities served. The noise level in the Museum work environment is usually low to moderate.
If the intern’s personal equipment is used, the Museum accepts no liability for loss or corruption of electronic files on device or any damage caused to said equipment while being used for Museum purposes.
