Engineering Project Management

Job Description
Staunton District Traffic Engineering is seeking an individual to plan, organize, monitor and direct work activities and resources to complete assigned transportation projects. The selected applicant will coordinate and communicate with VDOT and other engineering staff, local government, other agencies, and the Federal Highway Administration. Manage projects to provide high quality and accurate construction plans in accordance with applicable design criteria, standards and specifications. The incumbent will manage overall project scopes, monitor and maintain budgets, maintain up to date project schedules and apply project management principles to meet programmed objectives. Position will plan, develop and advertise regional contracts for traffic control device and ITS installations, replacements and upgrades. Provide traffic control device design using Microstation and other design software. Position provides support for traffic signal communications and operations and ITS devices within the North West Regional Operations (NWRO).

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation project management and project engineering; of roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials to include VDOT Road and Bridge specifications and Standards. Experience in preliminary engineering and construction activities related to traffic engineering. Skill in contract
management, change management, and team leadership. Knowledge of strategic, operational and financial management principles, practices and techniques. Skill in the use of computers and software applications, preferably MS Office and Google Suite. Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects; to investigate and resolve issues; and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering, equivalent experience or training may substitute for a degree. Considerable experience with traffic engineering design and related construction. Professional Engineering (PE) license or EIT designation. Certification as Project Management Professional.

Special Requirements
VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.
