English Teacher or Social Studies Teacher or Math Teacher

The purpose of a teacher's job is to teach students to read, write, problem solve, compute, find information, think, work cooperatively with others and to meet all district-required art curriculum objectives. Teaches classes in the field of art to students in grades K through 12, assists in other school programs as assigned and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's abilities.

Job Functions

     Essential Function:
 1.      Teaches knowledge and skills in art including but not limited to crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, computer graphics, art history and/or three-dimensional art to students utilizing the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum.
 2.      Demonstrates hands on techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, sculpture, graphics and modeling, using standard and/or teacher prepared instructional materials.
 3.      Plans and implements a program of study that meets individual needs, interests and abilities within the Sweetwater County School District #1 curriculum.
 4.      Implements curriculum objectives and goals using effective teaching techniques and materials.
 5.      Develops, in a cooperative manner with the principal and curriculum facilitators, a plan for the improvement and enrichment of instruction.
 6.      Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
 7.      Monitors and assesses student progress and provides feedback on a regular basis to students and parent/guardians.
 8.      Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific needs and seeks assistance of specialists as needed.
 9.      Communicates aims/objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner in clear, concise terms.
10.      Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of the student.
 11.      Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
12.      Instructs students in proper safety, care and use of tools and equipment. Organizes storage areas and controls use of supplies/ materials, equipment and tools to prevent waste, loss or abuse. .
13.      Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
14.      Selects and requisitions instructional materials and/ or supplies and maintains inventory records.
15.      Assists administrator in implementing all polices, vision, mission, philosophies, regulations and rules of Sweetwater County School District. #1.
16.      Creates educational experiences to provide students with opportunities to develop potential in self esteem, personal-social adjustment, decision-making and other life skills.
17.      Respects the dignity of each student as an individual and attempts to gain an adequate understanding of his/her needs, interests, abilities, aptitude, temperament, and environmental influences, as a basis on which to meet his/her needs and to treat him/her with fairness and courtesy.
18.      Assumes individual responsibilities assigned by principal/supervisor which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision, or other planning and professional assignments.
19.      Assumes professional and personal responsibility for the management and progress of classes under his/her authority, direction and supervision.
20.      Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
21.      Assumes legal responsibilities for the discipline and supervision of students in the classroom, on school property, or in attendance at school-sponsored activities at all times and maintains a high standard of conduct and good rapport with students.
22.      Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, parents, students, and community in a positive, solution-oriented manner.
23.      Maintains accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law, Sweetwater School District. #1 policy and administrative regulations.
24.      Conducts oneself in a business-like and task-oriented manner.
25.      Strives to be a good employee as well as an effective teacher.
26.      Seeks to establish friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school.
27.      Provides parents with information that will serve the best interest of their children and is discreet with information received from parents.

           Other Functions:

          Attends and supervises curriculum oriented field trips.
          Organizes various student art shows and displays.
          Attends parent and staff meetings.
          Keeps informed by reading building and district communications.
          Responds to requests for information in a timely manner.
          Responsible for the care, correct use and maintenance of the up keep of the equipment in the department
          Knowledgeable in the use of department equipment.
          Able to instruct students in the correct and safe operation of that equipment.
          Meets deadlines.
          Jury and organizes student's artwork.
          Provide purchase orders or requisition requests for necessary supplies. This information should be based on classes being taught, current inventories and within existing department budgetary constraints.

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Mental Abilities

           Possess a broad general knowledge of all subject areas with specific knowledge needed in contract areas. Possess group dynamics and interpersonal skills.
           Possess knowledge of psychological, emotional, and educational behavior development of children. Possess classroom management skills which include discipline as well as record keeping and assessment ability.
           Possess technological and computer skills.
           Possess problem solving, imagination, patience, reasoning, creativity, judgment, and analytical abilities. Possess a knowledge of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, photography, computer graphics, appropriate to grade level and specialty.

           Education, License, Certification or Formal Training

           Valid Wyoming Credential or license authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.
           Bachelor's degree, including all courses to meet credential requirements for art certification or endorsement. Continue to pursue graduate level classes for professional growth.

           Equipment

           Basic equipment but not limited to:
           35 mm SLR camera, VCR, DVD player, slide projector, overhead, computer, scanner, printers, and digital camera.
           Potter's wheel, slab roller, hand extruder machine, pug machine, various models of kiln with vent systems, drills, air brush equipment, band saw, matt cutters, and paper cutters.

Physical Demands:

           Be able to stand, walk and sit for long periods without fatigue or discomfort.
           Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry 50 feet.
           Be able to push up to 200 pounds up to 30 feet. 
           Be able to pull up to 100 pounds up to 50 feet.
           Be able to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; handle, finger, talk,  hear, and see.

           Environmental Demands:

           Be able to spend most of the time inside classrooms with some work outside in cold/hot weather.
           Be able to tolerate moderate noise levels.
           Occupationally exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potential infectious materials.
           Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
           Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
