Environmental Specialist II (Air Inspector) – P0815
Woodbridge, Virginia
Minimum Starting Salary: $50,696

The Department of Environmental Quality, Northern Regional Office, is seeking a qualified applicant to conduct inspections, perform Q/A on ambient air monitors, review records and permits, evaluate reports and investigate complaints to evaluate compliance with Air Pollution Control Law and Regulations, and initiate and follow through on enforcement in cases of non-compliance in order to protect, enhance, and preserve environmental resources in Virginia.

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of and experience with of air pollution control regulations and standards.
  • Considerable scientific and/or mechanical knowledge related to air monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand mechanical and industrial processes.
  • Ability to organize work and perform tasks independently.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to apply established policy, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to use computers for word processing and data management.
  • Requires EPA Method 9 Certification (within 6 months of employment).

Qualifications preferred but not required: Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, engineering/physical/biological or related science. A combination of education, experience, and training may substitute for a degree.
