Recreation Supervisor

The City of Vacaville is currently recruiting to fill TWO Recreation Supervisor vacancies - one full-time and one part-time in our Parks & Recreation Department.  

The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight, coordination, planning and administration of recreation programs offered by the City of Vacaville Parks and Recreation Department, including a variety of recreational programs, youth and adult sports, early childhood enrichment, before and after school care, summer camps, youth and adult enrichment classes and special events. Responsible for all recreational programming aspects related to the programs and the services provided to participants.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provides direction to Recreation Coordinators in selection, design, implementation and management of programs.
  • Provides leadership to the Recreation team in regards to overall program development, ensuring a wide range of diverse programs meet the needs and interests of the City of Vacaville community.
  • Facilitates collaboration amongst recreation programs (contract classes, arts, sports, fitness, wellness, aquatics, youth services, therapeutic recreation and active aging) to provide quality experience for staff and participants, maximizing positive community impact.
  • Monitors and evaluates programs and initiates changes to creatively address the needs and interests of the public.
  • Responsible for overall preparation and administration of approved annual budget; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
  • Supervises, plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; conducts staff evaluations and implements corrective action and/or recognition.
  • Manages Title II responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act; ensuring compliance with applicable laws; conducts interactive processes to determine reasonable accommodations.
  • Coordinates and corresponds with outside agencies and resources for proper programming and/or referrals as it relates to assigned program areas.
  • Supervises classes, workshops, leagues, clinics, tournaments and activities for persons engaged in recreation and wellness programs.
  • Supervises all co-sponsored general programs, i.e., cultural arts, special interest classes, concerts, and seasonal programming.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel for related recreation programs.
  • Promotes interest and provides information regarding recreation programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, stakeholders, other departments, and the general public.
  • Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals with available resources.
  • Schedules and facilitates meetings, trainings and Department wide staff events
  • Provides training and monitors implementation of Emergency Action Plan in all programs and activities.
  • Ensures compliance of required trainings and certifications for designated recreation staff.
  • Reviews progress of programs and directs changes as needed.
  • Supervises, schedules, and monitors all assigned facilities used for purposes of general programming rented, owned, or leased by the city.
  • Manages related projects, as assigned.
  • Will also perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies as needed for activities, facilitating programs, and helping set up for classes and events as needed.
  • Will supervise facility operations as assigned.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Recreation Supervisors may be required to work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

The full-time vacancy will be responsible for several program areas, including but not limited to: active aging, youth services, sports, aquatics, cultural arts and special events. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service, and oral and written communication. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess professional level experience in:
  • Program planning, development, implementation and coordination;
  • Supervision, training and performance evaluations;
  • Budget preparation and administration;
  • Equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in comprehensive community recreation programs.

The part-time vacancy will be primarily responsible for managing Title II responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and conducting interactive processes to determine reasonable accommodations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service, and oral and written communication. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess professional level experience in:
  • Interpreting, administering and explaining laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures;
  • Preparing clear and concise reports and recommendations.
