Literacy and Engagement Interventionist, 2019-20 School Year

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working from the school office in Boise, Idaho, the Literacy and Engagement Interventionist will provide assistance to elementary school students as they utilize online instruction and materials.

The Interventionist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and their families in order to engage the disengaged;
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and frankly with high risk students and families; finesse and grace to work through tough conversations with people who are sometimes upset and confrontational;
  • Screen students to establish proper reading level and identify at risk students based on student grades and test scores that are below proficiency level, including state standardized tests;
  • Provide diagnostic, prescriptive, and evaluative services for identified students;
  • Provide individual and small group instruction for identified students;
  • Adapt classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans;
  • Develop and implement individual intervention strategies to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school and graduate on time;
  • Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update Personal Learning Plans;
  • Collaborate with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program;
  • Act as a resource teacher in the area of reading/literacy to classroom teachers by assisting them in the organization of the reading program, selection of materials, and implementation of teaching techniques to ensure the instructional program relates to the specific needs of students;
  • Confer with the instructional staff on the reading/literacy needs of students and provide suggestions of effective interventions and strategies;
  • Participate in the school’s Student Support Team;
  • Attend and actively participate in Professional Learning Communities and staff meetings;
  • Keep student records and data up to date, including but not limited to: attendance records, discipline records, communication logs, Response to Intervention meeting minutes, grade retention records, online student and family information;
  • Report data for Response to Intervention meetings;
  • Assist with the administration of state tests, other required exams, and field trips;
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must reside in Idaho and be able to work in our Boise office
  • Highly qualified and certified to teach Elementary in Idaho
  • Degree or endorsement in Literacy is preferred
  • Response and/or intervention experience, particularly experience in mental health and working with kids who have behavioral (mainly attendance) concerns
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Google, Microsoft OS, and MS Office programs) 
  • Ability to analyze, develop, implement, and track intervention plans and strategies
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
  • Team player
  • Willingness to travel (may require occasional overnight travel)
  • Ability to work remotely
