Job Purpose:
 
The Accounting Intern is responsible for performing functions within the internal and external financial reporting processes, while ensuring work is done timely and in accordance with company policies, procedures, systems of internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
                                                                                                                                                          
           
Organization Structure:

Located in Hecla’s Coeur d’Alene Corporate Office, the Accounting Intern reports to the Senior Accountant and works closely with the finance team.
                                                                                                                                                           
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
§ Prepares journal entries at month-end for the corporate ledger or other business units
§ Adheres to a monthly financial close schedule to ensure timely completion of work
§ Provides information to internal and external auditors
§ Assists with preparation of templates and quality control procedures for SEC filings
§ Prepares account reconciliations
§ Reviews weekly payment preparations to ensure proper support and authorization
§ Works with mine operations accountants on relevant topics
§ Build knowledge of SEC and other public company reporting issues
§ Works with other finance managers as needed for review of forecasts
§ Performs other project work as assigned
                                                                                                                                                          
 
Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:
 
Skills:
Organizational/planning skills will be necessary to organize, schedule and prioritize work activities to manage time effectively and ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives and that the same satisfy corporate objectives.
Analytical and statistical skills are needed to interpret, analyze, and document business processes.
Computer skills are required to manage and utilize data management software packages and prepare reports, spreadsheets and presentations, with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe, with the ability to become effective with the Company’s ERP and other software.
Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to facilitate teamwork while working with internal and external contacts.
Self-motivation and initiative is necessary to ensure work progresses independent of supervision.
Communications skills are necessary to ensure excellence in verbal and written communications, and effectively interact with associates at all levels of the organization as well as external to the Company. 
Administrative skills are required to manage paperwork, meet reporting requirements, and oversee various systems.
Detail-orientation and ability to multi-task.
 
Knowledge:     
 
Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting principles and internal controls is required, and experience in the use of an ERP is beneficial. 
 
Education:
 
Majoring in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting at an accredited college or university.
