Description
The Visual Communications Designer conceptualizes and creates visual design solutions that support Bellevue College's brand, marketing communication and recruitment goals. This position works closely with campus stakeholders and uses design software and other technology to execute designs and coordinate production for traditional and digital projects; ensure that work aligns with Bellevue College standards.
 
The position reports to the Director, Marketing and Community Development. Under general supervision, carries out work assignments in accordance with the policies and objectives the supervisor has established. The employee plans and organizes work, determines the work methods that will be employed and assists in determining priorities and deadlines; completed work is reviewed in terms of the employee's effectiveness in producing the desired results.

This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Institutional Advancement (IA) Division of Bellevue College works across the full academic enterprise to solidify a multi-faceted culture of brand awareness, philanthropy, and internal and external engagement. IA supports the College's mission by increasing awareness of, advocacy for, engagement in, and giving to Bellevue College. As part of the IA division, the Marketing & Communications department is responsible for stewarding the BC brand and driving the college's marketing strategy to increase awareness, support enrollment, and drive community engagement.

POSITION DUTIES

• Create original graphic designs and artwork for publications such as brochures, posters, signs, bulletins, publications, educational information and digital communications.
• Consult with and advise faculty, staff, editors and other clients regarding graphic design projects. Determine appropriate and economical solutions including developing budgets for specific projects.
• Produce a variety of deliverables, including PowerPoint presentations, digital magazines and large publications, primarily through layout of text and images to produce catalogs, student handbooks, accreditation manuals, etc.
• Monitors projects through production to ensure that files are error-free, that the original specifications and production schedules are met, and quality standards are maintained. Coordinates production with the traffic manager and service providers as needed.
• Implements and ensures compliance with brand standards and design style guide.
• Photograph and direct photo shoots as needed for events and marketing collateral.
• Maintains file organization on the server and SharePoint, including all design and digital photography files associated with specific projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in visual communications, graphic design or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
• Proficiency in graphic design software including Adobe Creative Suite (lnDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience working in a collaborative environment with diverse employees, and customer/client groups
• Experience with digital pre-press, one-, two- and full-color design, production and scheduling processes for print and web visual development
• Visual design capability with attention to accuracy, detail and thoroughness

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two (2) years of graphic design experience
• One (1) year of experience within higher education
• Two (2) years of professional experience in digital media arts (multimedia) including photography, videography, video editing and animation
• Strong knowledge of typography
• Effective customer service, project management, and prioritization skills; working knowledge of SmartSheet project software, Project Management Professional certification
• Experience in web design, including UX design and working knowledge of HTML
• Experience or knowledge of PC and Mac based computers in order to effectively integrate graphic cross-platform with campus
