Program Coordinator

Wise Readers to Leaders is a free, six-week summer literacy and enrichment program for Kinder-8th graders in Title I LAUSD schools that aims to prevent the “summer slide,” or learning loss over summer months. We create a powerful, fun, and transformative summer for our scholars from high-need communities by providing innovative and exciting literature curriculum, and engaging enrichment activities and field trips. We emphasize literacy while instilling a love of reading and self-confidence that bolster academic success by offering our original literacy curriculum in the morning and “camp style” enrichment activities in the afternoons. Our program teachers, known as Literacy Leaders, are dedicated and enthusiastic college students, assisted by passionate and devoted high school students, known as Junior Literacy Leaders, all of whom act as role models and mentors to our students.

We are looking for an organized, passionate, and dynamic individual to help coordinate and run our year-round and summer programming with three areas of focus: 1. Managing our high school teen program year-round and throughout the summer; 2. Developing and overseeing social media and other media content and; 3. Assisting the Program Manager as further described below. This includes preparation and implementation of a training program for teens and mentors, the coordination and leadership of the teen program (year-round and summer) which includes monthly board meetings, events, and field trips to keep the teens and scholars connected and engaged through the school year.
 
The Program Coordinator will also aid the Co-Founder/CEO and Program Manager in marketing and publicity, financial support, development, program operations and expansion.

Responsibilities
 
·        Teen Leadership and Mentorship Year-Round Program which specifically includes:
o  Recruiting teens, training participants and planning programming and events, such as community service events, literacy events, or field trips
o  Overseeing the Teen Executive Board throughout the year, including facilitating board meetings and supporting teens in individual projects focused on social justice
·        Teen Summer (Junior Literacy Leader – JLL) Program which specifically includes:
o  Partnering with local high schools to recruit 150 teens to volunteer
o  Creating and implementing and innovation and inspired training
o  Overseeing the day-to-day logistical functioning of the JLLs in their roles as teacher aides and assisting in the challenges faced by teens in their work
·        Assisting the Program Manager in planning and executing the summer program, including:
o  Partnering with LAUSD schools to recruit scholar participants through Recruitment Nights
o  Planning and implementing training for all staff
o  Developing summer programming and enrichment activities administrative duties, and developing summer programming and enrichment
o  Building and maintaining relationships with community organizations to provide services to scholars, their families, teens, volunteers and staff
·        Assisting the Program Manager with program operations, marketing and development, such as:
o  Creating digital content to be posted on social media, websites or other uses
o  Maintaining media platforms, such as our website, Instagram and Facebook
o  Assisting with fundraising campaigns and special events
  • Other duties as assigned
 
 
Qualifications
 
·        College degree required
·        A love for working with children and teens
·        Ability to motivate and engage staff, volunteers and teens
·        Strong interpersonal, organization, written and verbal skills
·        Competent with Excel, Photoshop, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
·        An energetic, positive and enthusiastic demeanor
·        Fluent in Spanish is preferred
·        Authorization to conduct background check required
