Herd Manager - Potential Ownership
Gar-Lin Dairy is multi-generation family owned, 2,000 cow dairy operation in Eyota, Minnesota. We share a passion for our industry and our goal is to stay in the top 5-10% of dairies. We have a rare opportunity at our farm operation as we are specifically hiring for a Herd Manager who will grow into an ownership role to continue the Gar-Lin Dairy tradition of excellence.
We’re hiring for a Head Herd Manager with potential for ownership after assimilating with the team. In this hands-on management role, you will manage the herd health team in daily activities. You will focus on the best herd health, care and treatment of cows, and provide a comfortable environment to maximize milk production.

- Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred, not required

- What you would be doing:Manage the herd health team overseeing all aspects of herd health including hoof trimming, vaccinations, culling list, dry cows, sick cows and cow movement
- Perform and supervise ultrasounds, palpations, and other aspects of reproductive program
- Meet or exceed goals regarding death loss, sickness and culling
- Problem solve during day to day operations to continue moving forward
- Communicate with team to ensure proper procedures are followed (i.e. sick cow treatment, dry cow treatment, down cows, vaccination schedules)
- Ensure accurate tracking and data input in dairy software
- Work closely and communicate openly with owners on continuous improvement to maximize productivity
- Provide a clean, comfortable, safe and positive environment for livestock and employees
- Work with other managers, veterinarian, nutritionist, and agronomist to ensure herd health and profitability
A few details about our current farming operation: 2,000 head dairy, 4,500 acres of crops, 50 stall rotary parlor. Current milk numbers are: 31,744 lbs of milk per cow per year with 1160 lbs of fat and 951 lbs of protein.
