Title: Elementary School Instructional Coach
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Elementary School Principal
Supervises: N/A
 
Time Commitment: First workday in August to the last workday in June (11 months)
 
Position Overview:
The Academy is seeking a full-time Instructional Coach committed to building the capacity of teachers and teacher teams so that they become highly effective educators as measured by their students’ learning outcomes. This includes supporting and working with instructional and grade level team members to develop intellectual and engaging scope and sequence plans for their courses, as well as collaborating closely with the principal to develop an effective, differentiated professional development plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Curriculum Development
  • Work collaboratively with existing grade level teams to refine and improve their units of study in all curricular areas.
  • Ensure that all units of study, across K-5, are standards-aligned and are vertically aligned across K-5.
Continually review the grades K through 5 scope and sequence plan.
Work with the middle school instructional coach to develop and facilitate the new teacher induction training that occurs in early August. 
 
Instructional Coaching
  • Hold bi-weekly meetings with grade level teams to review student progress and adjust unit and lesson plans, as necessary (facilitate grade subject area data-based instruction meetings)
  • Work collaboratively with the RTI Coordinator and Data Manager to utilize formative and summative data to drive instruction 
Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teachers in implementing sound instructional practices using AoA’s Framework for Effective Teaching and Learning.
Assist new teachers in a collaborative model of observation and conversation to promote quality instructional practices
Serves as the new teacher induction coach by being certified through the Reach Institute or a similar state recognized program.
Communicate observation notes, feedback, and next steps with teachers in order to monitor development and track improvements
Provide support with designing and implementing standards-aligned curriculum, including the designing of formative and summative assessments and using assessment data to inform instructional decisions
 
Professional Development
  • Co-design and help facilitate the professional development plan in collaboration with the principal
  • Co-design and facilitate the Informal Observation and Instructional Rounds process
  • Attend professional development conferences (for personal learning and to bring back to staff)
 
Administrative
  • Work with the School Principal to evaluate all curricular materials, including assessments and classroom libraries, and make adjustments/additional purchases, as necessary
  • Work with the School Principal and other school personnel to coordinate CAASPP assessment
  • Work with the School Principal to develop school-wide plan for intervention--school year and summer
  • Other duties as assigned
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid California Teacher Certification, master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of five years successful teaching experience
  • Teacher leadership experience preferred
