Special Education Teacher

DUTIES INCLUDE:  Serving as a full-time classroom teacher as part of the district's Cross Categorical Curriculum and those duties include providing coherent instruction, understanding students academic and social needs, collaborating with peer teachers and staff and creating a welcoming environment for all students and families.

License Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree qualifying for teaching certification and DPI licensure in elementary/middle education. If you have a teaching license in another state our Department of Instruction provides reciprocity with most states. Demonstrated success in the following areas:
-Instructing students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations

-Adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests

-Establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students

-Establishing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible

-Meeting with parents/guardians to discuss their student's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs

ABOUT THE DISTRICT
MMSD is the second largest school system in Wisconsin and has a student population of approximately 27,000 students in 32 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, 4 comprehensive high schools, 2 alternative secondary schools and several alternative programs. The district has a total staff of over 5,400 and an operating budget of $420 million. The District has a 56% minority student population.
