Civil Engineer

Duties listed are at the full performance level.
Conduct inspections and evaluation of the conditions of facilities and structures to insure accuracy, existing standards, codes, regulations and requirements, and suitability of final design.
Assist in the evaluation of facility plans and design objectives including conducting surveys and investigations to establish the necessary data to initiate facility designs.
Prepare design criteria for smaller or less complex portions of conventional roads, facilities, utility systems, or structures.
Conduct inspections of facilities to ensure they are maintained to the original standard of construction and to ensure the safety of the public.
Identify issues to recommend changes that solve problems such as unusual foundation conditions caused by faults, rocks susceptible to solution and landslides, water seepage, behavior of materials, need for treatment of uncovered rock.
Investigate need for contract change orders, considering conditions at work site, field measurements and computations, and local prices.
Perform all associated duties involved in the contract administration duties for an entire project of limited size or complexity or a minor part of a large project.
Determine most economical design to meet multiple use needs and construction feasibility.
Interpret agency policy and contracts for contractor in order to resolve problems relating to plans, specifications, and materials.
