Nutrition Services Supervisor

DEFINITION OF POSITION:  The primary responsibilities of the Nutrition Services Supervisor are to provide leadership, supervision and expertise in the ongoing development and implementation of a healthy, appealing, sustainable, and educational nutrition services program for Pullman Public Schools including the supervision of all of its operations. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; promoting and transferring employees; planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; disciplining and terminating employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:    Executive Director of Operations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·   Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, Food Service Management or related field
·   Valid Washington State driver’s license
·   Obtain and maintain a valid food handler’s permit
·   Obtain and maintain current First Aid/CPR certification
·   Ability to lift 40 lbs.
·   Willing to relocate to the Pullman community within one year of employment
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·   Four years of management experience in a school district food services program or a minimum of five years of experience in a food service organization
·   Supervisory responsibility for 10 or more employees
·   Experience in on-site food preparation
·   Experience in procuring locally produced food
·   Experience working with students
·   Proficient with information and communication technologies
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of personnel within this position.
 
·   Ability to regularly attend work at the district facilities during the course of the work day
·   Ability to provide punctual responses to work-related concerns
·   Provide suggestions and recommendations regarding subordinate employees on an annual basis at minimum; make recommendations for evaluation and discipline of subordinates
·   Hire and supervise nutrition services employees in collaboration with the Human Resources Department and the Executive Director of Operations
·   Oversee the processing and approval of all applications for free and reduced lunches
·   Establish standards for food preparation and service with an emphasis on using fresh, local, and district prepared food when possible and feasible
·   Develop and administer accurate and proper accounting and cash handling procedures; maintain records utilizing the Skyward system
·   Annually prepare and submit the National School Lunch & Breakfast Program application and complete all requirements necessary to maintain participation
·   Recommend staffing qualifications and levels
·   Responsible for compliance with all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and requirements in the operation and management of a child nutrition program
·   Gather input from, and be communicative and responsive to, stakeholders; make program adjustments accordingly where feasible
·   Responsible for menu planning and the distribution/communication to stakeholders
·   Prepare and maintain all records in advance of annual state and cyclical federal audits
·   Maintain product required records for state and federal audits, including program audits
·   Prepare and submit monthly Child Nutrition Services Claim
·   Maintain an accurate inventory of all food, supplies and equipment
·   Identify and provide regular and necessary training sessions for all nutrition service employees
·   Ensure implementation of sanitation and safety procedures and compliance with HACCP
·   Develop specifications for competitive bids and conduct annual dairy and food purchase bids and awards
·   Work collaboratively with stakeholders and district staff to develop and implement the required wellness policy within each school
·   Recommend pricing and comply with federal price requirements
·   Provide nutrition information and/or appropriate food/menu adaptations for special dietary needs and health requirements
·   Participate in appropriate and related informational and training meetings and workshops
·   Comply with Board Policy and Procedure
·   Provide community outreach through involvement with community activities that utilize district kitchen and related facilities and services

·   Establish and maintain strong effective interpersonal, oral and written communication
·   Possess proficiency with required computer applications and web applications
 
EXPECTATIONS FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
·   Employment is contingent upon passing the Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check
·   Maintain any applicable/required certification at all times: Washington State driver’s license, valid food handler’s permit, and First Aid/CPR certification

·   Length of Contract:   8 hours/day, 260 days/year
