Digital Graphic Designer

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Position Summary      
Special Olympics is looking for a talented digital graphic designer who is driven by a design aesthetic, an attention to design principals and typography, and a passion for using design for social inclusion. Additionally, the candidate needs to value working for a global brand that values set guidelines to design within. The ideal candidate is a creative and motivated designer who is skilled in creating projects for digital and print mediums as well as creating video and motion design projects. The digital designer is expected to support in the design and creation of the Special Olympics branded assets in digital and print forms and to make them widely available for the Movement use.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Creating motion graphics and a wide variety of digital assets
  • Designing, developing and/or revising movement wide marketing materials, such as templates, brochures, newsletters, advertisements, handouts, presentations, logos, posters, invitations, animations, web images, etc.
  • Altering or repairing graphic elements as necessary and/or placing or converting graphic elements into new formats for different regions within the movement
  • Managing the production of various projects starting with the design phase through delivery by utilizing Adobe CC software or the Microsoft Word or Power point software. Highly Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS is an advantage.
  • Creating logos, brochures, info graphics, presentations, interactive videos and other design assets that adhere to Special Olympics’ brand guidelines
  • Ensuring the consistency of the brand essence and look and feel across all the created design elements
 
Required Qualifications
  • A degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communication
  • Experience designing for a variety of digital media platforms, including traditional web and mobile interfaces
  • Exceptional skills in Adobe Creative suite especially Adobe After Effects
  • An advocate for design principals, e.g. composition, color theory and a highly refined sense of Typography
  • Strong ideation and collaborative skills
  • Strong communication skills and a strong ability to reference, analyze and articulate design
  • Ability to visualize data into info graphics
  • Cross-platform knowledge between Mac and PC, including the ability to design Microsoft Word templates & Power point templates
  • Proven ability to work with a global brand and adhere to the guiding principles and the set brand guidelines and campaigns
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment under tight deadlines and fluctuating schedules
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Special Olympics or people with intellectual disabilities
  • Previous experience with a minimum of 3 year experience in an advertising agency, in-house creative team or a design studio is a plus
  • Non-profit marketing experience is a plus
