English Teacher/Native Studies 6-12 Grant Funded

Duties
Teach primarily Native American students (grades 8-12) supplemental level courses in advanced English opportunities coursework at college level (i.e. English 101, Public Speaking, Native American Literature, AP English). Teach high school level coursework to highly qualified (8th- 12th) grade Native American students.
Teacher must be knowledgeable of school intervention strategies for student social and emotional educational challenges.
This position requires that the teacher possess the strong ability to mentor high school students using intelligence, respect, compassion, understanding of culturally responsive care, building trust level with your students, and using strict confidentiality at all times.
Teacher will provide written documentation of assigned coursework data; Pre-Post Test data; numbers of Native American students served; performance reports on project goals and objectives; using statistics using the GPRA standards for grant reporting.

Responsibilities
Knowledge of principals of culturally responsive teaching, classroom management, teaching duties, child development, child behavior, instructional processes, rules and regulations of the school, state, and federal.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain strict confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, interact with persons of different age groups and cultural/educational backgrounds, adhere to safe working practices, adjust to flexible assignments, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and/or policies, work cooperatively with others, and rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional and intervention situations.

Skills to perform basic clerical functions, strong communication skills in both written and verbal form, operate standard office equipment including computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax machines.

Provide Idaho State Standards oriented instruction using computer technology (i.e. IDLA, EDMENTUM (Plato Learning), IXL on line programs, and Idaho State mandated curriculum while focusing on the whole student and their safety, positive growth, and educational success.
Work independently and as a team player. Communicate and confer with Lapwai Indian Education Department staff, other school staff, and school administration for the purpose of providing information and assistance in the evaluation of student progress or behavior.
When classroom assignment is incomplete, use and provide a reasonable timeline for coursework to be completed at the after-school tutoring program, discretionary Friday and Saturday School day, teacher tutoring sessions, or alternative learning method.

Minimum Qualifications
1.       Must be an Idaho State Certified Secondary 6-12 English Teacher.
2.     Teacher must be knowledgeable in current classroom computer technology as a primary teaching /resource tool.
3.     Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner interfacing with Native American education, tribal education, tribal service liaisons, tribal entities, tribal community agencies, tribal parents/guardians, Native American students, and tribal law enforcement entities.
4.     Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character.
5.     Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Culturally Responsive Teaching.
6.     Teaching or educational internship experience working with at-risk students.
