Social Worker (Juvenile Services Coordinator)

The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC) is currently seeking a full-time Juvenile Services Coordinator (Social Worker) to fill an opening at our District 1 Office located in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Please note that this position requires some periodic travel to make contact with juveniles in residential placements in other areas of the state as well as occasional travel out of state.   

Salary: $20.44-22.19/hr DOE.

Juvenile Services Coordinators (JSC) provide on-going case-management services for juvenile offenders committed to custody of the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections and placed in either state or private facilities. Services begin with the juvenile's commitment and continue until release. The JSC provides ongoing case management to juveniles committed to IDJC and placed in either state or private facilities, collaborates with respective facility case managers as well as other members of the treatment team, including family and guardians, the juvenile probation officer and other treatment providers critical to the juvenile's successful return to the community. The JSC is the aftercare case manager for all juveniles in the Department's custody and facilitates and oversees reintegration into the community in concert with community partners, the court, treatment providers and the juvenile's family.  The services include identification and development of community-based services for the juveniles and their families. Juvenile Services Coordinators may conduct home visits prior to a juvenile's release from Department custody in an effort to work with families, county probation, and community resources to assess current needs, and collaboratively develop plans to support the juvenile's successful community re-entry.

Case Management:
  • Prepares Juvenile Service Coordinator summary reports on juveniles to include all social and developmental factors.
  • Recommends placement alternatives, rehabilitation, and aftercare for newly committed juveniles based on information obtained from the county probation, and other community resources.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to access juveniles eligibility and to assure use of community based resources.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and keeps written record of monthly progress review planning meetings and case activity.
  • Assures an accurate bi-monthly report representing juvenile progress is sent to parents, judge and Juvenile Probation Officer.
  • Prepares a reintegration plan at commitment as a part of the JSC summary and makes modifications as appropriate during commitment.
  • Initiates Custody Review Board hearings based on the juvenile's age, length of stay, and rehabilitation progress as defined by law.
  • Prepares packet for Custody Review Board, attends hearings and presents the cases.
  • Attends court hearings and provides testimony as required.
  • Prepares all necessary documentation during Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections' custody of juveniles.     
  • Facilitates Family Engagement.
Community Based Services:
  • Provides information regarding community-based resources to juveniles, parents, Juvenile Probation Officers, and Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections' employees.
  • Conducts home visits prior to release.
  • Plan and facilitate wrap-around services in the community.     
Miscellaneous:
  • Attends various seminars, classes, etc. to meet requirements for license retention and to stay current with new practices in the field.
  • Verbally de-escalates aggressive/acting out juveniles with staff back-up if there is a safety concern.    
  • This job may require occasional travel.
Working Relationships/Contacts:
  • The Juvenile Service Coordinator works with juveniles, the county probation and juvenile justice systems, Department of Health and Welfare, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, contract providers, all the rehabilitation team members, and the families.
